Taali is an upcoming biographical series based on the life of transgender activist Shreegauri Sawant. From the looks of the trailer, it is quite clear that Sushmita Sen is going to knock it out of the park with the portrayal of a transgender. She has also proved her mettle as an actor of substance in Hotstar’s Aarya and with this one, she seems to have extended her limits even further. The show has been written by Kshitij Patwardhan and directed by Ravi Jadhav.
The physical and mental traumas, the embarrassment and the harassment, and the struggles of being transgender are unfathomable for the other sexes. While we can be proud of them for coming such a long way and where they stand today, the truth is that they are still majorly mistreated. And we can only hope that Taali makes itself heard by the masses, especially with a woman playing the titular role for the first time in my recent memory. And who better to do it than a pathbreaker like Sushmita herself?

Taali Cast
Alongside Sushmita as Shreegauri Sawant, the cast includes Nitish Rathore, Ankur Bhatia, Aishwarya Narkar, Hemangi Kavi, Krutika Deo, Meenakshi Chugh, and Shaan Kakkar.
Taali Plot/Storyline
The series is based on transgender activist and the first transgender mother of India, Shreegauri Sawant. She is the director of Mumbai’s Sakhi Char Chowghi Trust, which offers counselling to transgender people as well as helps those who are suffering from AIDS. She was also made the goodwill ambassador of Maharashtra’s Election Commission.

The biographical drama will showcase her life, right from her childhood, her struggles and how she became the first transgender mother. From being harassed as a kid to owning her body as an adult to becoming the first transgender activist to file a petition that eventually led to the Supreme Court recognizing transgender people as people belonging to the third gender; the series will cover all this in detail along with the obstacles that she faced, especially while fighting the case. It will also delve into her relationship with Gayatri, her adopted daughter.
The way the veteran actress has seemingly embodied Shreegauri’s persona will no doubt be a treat to watch. Needless to say, it will be heavy on emotions too. We will be seeing her in a totally different avatar, and frankly speaking, she won’t be embodying just one transgender person but the whole transgender community.
