Spy x Family Episode 19 Review: Will Senpai Ever Notice Nightfall?

The 10th episode of Spy x Family stood up to my expectations in terms of adapting the manga perfectly, but how did the episode fare anyways? Now, without further ado, let us jump right into the review and see how this episode went.

Spy x Family Episode 19 Overview

Even though shounen giants like Bleach: Thousand Year Blood War, My Hero Academia Season 6 and Chainsaw Man are all airing this season, Spy x Family stays strong amongst the top dogs with an unconventional storyline and interesting characters. The series is based on the hit manga by Endou Tatsuya, which combines action with family-centric comedy.

After the successful first season, it was only natural that we would get a second season for the Forger family. The anime is back with stunning animation, clearly influenced by the triumph of season 1 and a fast-paced storyline that will never cease to amaze the audience.

Furuhashi Kazuhiro directs the anime, and on the other hand, Wit Studio, CloverWorks is in charge of its animation. “SOUVENIR” by BUMP OF CHICKEN is the opening theme, whereas “Shikisai (色彩)” by yama is the ending theme.

Spy x Family Episode 19 Review and Recap: An Interesting Tennis Competition

Still From Spy x Family Episode 19

In today’s episode, we saw Loid in his work mode, along with Nightfall or Fiona Frost. He takes on this mission directly after Fiona accuses Loid of losing his credibility as a spy.

But this mission is not at all easy. They will have to retrieve a painting which might carry secrets that can make the nations of Ostania and Westalis go to war again. But this painting is kept somewhere very safe by a guy called Campbell, and Fiona comes up with a plan to invade this place.

Her idea included Loid and herself acting as a couple and participating in the underground tennis competition that the owner of the painting organises. The rules of this competition are quite unique. Normally, only close friends or acquaintances of Campbell can enter this tournament, but anyone else can also join if they are willing to pay a huge registration fee.

Once someone wins this competition, they can ask for any painting or artefact from Campbell’s collections. The battle begins, and Loid and Fiona are up against Tennis legends who apparently dominated the Grand Slam circuit 10 years ago.

Loid is visibly stressed when he sees that he will have to compete with retired legends, but Fiona is confident in her skills. She even theorises that after watching her skills Loid will rethink his choice of wife and finally notice Fiona and make her his lifelong companion.

True to her words, she and Loid both absolutely demolishes the opening team and win the match. But the journey is not that simple. In the next match, they had to face the Bolik brothers, who used a special kind of drug to get enhanced physical strength.

But obviously, even they could not do anything and had to face a staggering defeat. The final round is where things get interesting but difficult for Loid and Fiona when they face off against Campbell’s son and daughter.

Verdict

This was another entertaining episode from Spy X Family. We got a keener look inside Fiona’s heart and got to know how obsessed she is with Loid. We can tell she wholeheartedly believes that she can beat Yor and strives to work hard to get affection from her senpai.

There were also some killer moves from both the spies, and hopefully, the next episode will confirm their win. Watch Spy X Family on Netflix.
