Selling the OC Review: Less Sales, More Drama, Backbiting and Absurdity

Selling the OC, a reality series, is now out on Netflix. It features Jason Oppenheim, Brett Oppenheim, Alexandra Jarvis, Tyler Stanaland, Alexandra Rose, Polly Brindle, Gio Helou, Sean Palmieri, Kayla Carmona, Alex Hall, Austin Victoria, Brandi Marshall and Lauren Brito. There are 8 episodes of 40 minutes.

The synopsis reads, “The Oppenheim Group expands to Orange County, where an all-new real estate team shows off lavish oceanfront listings and big personalities make waves.”

Selling the OC Review Contains Some Spoilers

In the Netflix reality show Selling the OC, the Oppenheim Group and their team of skilled real estate agents work to sell lavish properties in Orange County. Everyone wants to make a big sale and do their best. However, it’s a competitive field. So there are fights, disagreements and betrayals.

A few days ago, I saw Cosmic Love on Amazon Prime Video, and I thought there wouldn’t be anything worse than that reality show this month. Well, here comes Selling the OC on Netflix. The show brings together real estate agents who claim to be the best in the market. However, there are only a few times we see them working. Most of the time, they try to gang up against a person/people or bring each other down.

The top 2 worst characters on the reality show are Alex Hall and Kayle Carmona. It takes no time to understand that Alex Hall is hungry for attention, loves b*tching about people behind their back, gossiping, lying and manipulating. She thinks she’s the best in her work. Well, she might be good at her job. But that doesn’t give her the right to humiliate and mistreat others.

Selling the OC 1

Alex can’t keep secrets, needs to make everything about herself and loves trash-talking. She’s the biggest bully in the show. Another ridiculous personality is Kayle Carmona. In the beginning, I didn’t have issues with Kayle. But when he tries to kiss a married man and gets mad at others for feeling uncomfortable and discussing it behind her back, it made me lose my mind.

Just when I thought I had seen the worst, the man who she tried to kiss apologised to her. Why? Because he discussed it behind her back. I wonder if the people in the show and the makers know that forcing a kiss on someone is an act of sexual assault. But Kayle has to cry and act like she is the victim. It doesn’t matter if she was drunk. Which era is this that people are using alcohol as an excuse for their inappropriate behaviour?

Before I come to the third worst character in the show, let me tell you that the show takes a Love is Blind and Bigg Boss-like twist. People are partying on the beach, stripping, gossiping, and fighting. I wonder if Netflix spends money on these lavish beach and house parties only to add fight sequences! Otherwise, what’s the selling point for such bizarre shows? It also made me wonder if all of this is scripted.

Selling the OC 2

Alex and her gang constantly try to bully and corner Alexandra Jarvis and Alexandra Rose. They even have the audacity to call both the ladies bullies and accuse them of instigating fights. Jarvis and Rose are no saints either. Even they sit and gossip among themselves. But at least they are loyal to each other, didn’t cause any fights, or were not being fake while claiming to be someone’s friends.

The Alexandras called out Alex Hall and Polly Brindle for trying to flirt with the same married man Kayle tried to kiss. However, the man in the picture seems to have no problem with what Hall and Brindle did. He instead slams both the Alexandras and calls them bullies. As expected, Kayle cries and acts like a victim.

The show gets absurd and stupid with every episode. People in groups are dramatic, and there is always one big bully who will manipulate others into doing things their way. Hall is that big bully here. Now coming to the third worst person in the show – Polly Brindle. All Polly can do is shout and use abusive language when someone tries to put sense in her head. As someone rightly said – Empty vessels make the most noise.

Selling the OC 3

I don’t know what the purpose of Selling the OC show was. But it does teach us something – how not to be a trashy, horrible and ill-mannered person. The men in the show were merely used as eye candy. The series focused more on catfights because how will they dramatise and spice up things if women aren’t fighting, crying or yelling?

Netflix’s Selling the OC Review: Final Thoughts

Overall, the show is a waste of time if you think you will learn something about the real estate world. We are instead introduced to uncivilised wealthy people who are rude, torment others, sl*tshame other women and act disrespectfully. The only bearable part was the luxurious housing properties by the beautiful beach.

Selling the OC is now streaming on Netflix.

  1. I give this show a one as well. The only reason I am giving it one star is because I live in Orange County and I like seeing the actual homes and different streets that I am familiar with. Every single character on this show is horrible. They are all just trying to bring the drama and none of it seems authentic. It’s like a contest for who can be The biggest garbage human on the planet. Not one character is likable. All of them are incredibly pretentious. I know that it is about luxury real estate but when Geo called San Clemente the boonies that was absolutely ridiculous as there are multi million dollar mansions all over the place there. Alex hall Is an evil backstabbing bitch. They make Orange County seem like it is filled with awful people like this when it actually isn’t. If they get a second season I would like to see more authenticity and less drama being played up for the cameras.

      • My wife loves beautiful homes so I watched this series with her and wondered if the “agents” were actors or reading off scripts! It really seemed so dysfunctional and extra mean and over the top! Can’t see how this makes the company look good, or the management to allow such open hatred. But love the OC area, the beaches and homes. I would have called this Mean Girls do the OC, or Make OC Great Again! LOL!

  2. This article is so true this was the whole aspect of the show . ALEX HALL, POLLY AND THE REST OF THE CLICK ARE “BULLIES” and is jealous of ALEXANDRIA ROSE AND ALEXANDRIA J AS WELL AS GIO . And I hope Tyler wife divorce him because if he was tolerating that HONEY what would he do when the cameras not rolling

  3. Spot on review, I can’t believe that the Oppenheim Group allow their name to be associated with women who are Bullies and supposedly work in their brokerage, for shame on you Brett and Jason… Absolute rubbish….

  4. I was super excited for this to come on Netflix. After binge watching selling sunset over and over I was hoping this was going to be just as good. Do i believe everything that is said and done? No of course not the way directors of the show sculpt these people to make them portray a person they want them to be is awful. Example Christine in selling sunset yes she is a big character and has her opinions but as the show went on she was made to be such a bad person. No denying she did some shitty things but these things were then blown out of the water. Selling the OC is too much drama and a lot of two faced people. This is now how the real world works, my boss would not stand for half of the shit that goes on in this program. It’s a shame that these programs have become more about drama then selling homes and influencing people to push themselves to be the best they can be.

  5. Yea I agree its a dram contest between the girls. And I really don’t expect any less drama happening. I’m wondering if it’s gona end up similar the “selling sunset’s” Christine?

  6. The need to focus more on the luxury properties. Million dollar listing does a good job of showing the properties while still showing big personalities. Even the original selling sunset is much better. Selling the OC had hardly any real estate and the characters aren’t likeable. You should definetly skip this show.

  7. So disappointing where is the professionalism all drama for cameras makes this a -1 star. Alex Hall and a bunch of the rest is way over the top!! Not in a good way just pathetic ????

  8. What is the point of some of these characters on this show? Outside of presenting some of the most cringing, below dirt characteristics of poor examples of humans? Alex Hall ‘singleton’ and pathetic cray cray Polly need to go… their behaviors/vocabulary and narcissistic personalities are appalling …. If my daughter were to ever behave like this there would result in consequences! I’d be completely embarrassed if I had children like these two immature beings…. Done with this show… couldn’t watch anymore of their disgusting back stabbing, unprofessional drama ???????? ???????? ????????

  9. I totally agree with you. I too live in Orange county (lake forest). All of them are fake. The homes they did show are amazing. The 106 million where the ceiling opened up amazing

  10. I hate selling OC. All the cast besides Gio and Jarvis and rose knew what they were doing but the rest was more for aesthetic and for drama. Each second there was always plot twist or some shade thrown. They always talk about slut Shaming other women. I literally stopped at the 3rd episode I can’t watch it

  11. Agreeeeeeeee with all the review. So on point. Really this review is what i thinking. I dont know if Tyler wife watch this, i guarantee she will disapoint with her husband.
Eventhough Tyler and Alex Hall is Bfriend, how can married men and single woman cuddling kissing and says it is okay? Wth? I really want to know bout reall estate, so eye candy. I literally skip when Alex Hall and the gang show up hahahaha even is Brandi and the other woman (i didnt know her name). I really can not understand Polly at all, she just yelling and yelli g i always skip her part booo

If there is S2, i hope Alex Hall and the gang is disapear.

    • Thank you for agreeing with the review. I wish the show wasn’t so bad and irritating to watch.
Yes, their actions are questionable. We might find more in season 2.

  12. No surprise Women against women once again making them all look crazy
Can we start promoting healthy relationships where people are kind to one another so much hate and anger between these women it’s gross shame on Oppenheimer group for allowing this behavior

  13. Totally agree, a very disappointing show that perpetuates the stereotype that women hate other women at work:( crazy that at this day and age this is somehow considered entertaining. Trashy people on a trashy show.

  14. Worst review ever. The show is awesome. Beautiful women wearing thousand dollar designer dresses and shoes to work in a real estate office. Epic. I need to go shopping. So much fun.

  15. WOW what a mess of a show..As a old Laguna Beach lifeguard and having a place near Hessler Park ( yes there is grass in Laguna) and Oh and San Clemente was good enough for an ex-president and Oh drinking is not allowed on the beaches duh? Think I ran into the whole gang (stars?) at the newly remodeled Laguna Hotel last spring and wondered “who are these people” they sure don’t look any locals. Pack up the tribe and go back to Bev Hills

  16. Ugh, I just hated this series. Those women were just SO horrible. At least in Selling Sunset they try to show they have some redeemable qualities. These women don’t care even a little bit about their reputations or being decent human beings. I mainly watch because I want to see the properties, but this series just kept showing the same handful of houses repeatedly. Does it not occur to Jason and Brett that their company looks like an unprofessional joke that they have zero control over? Why would anyone want that firm representing them?

  17. Worst review comment ever. You are completely out of touch if you think this… or you are on the show and think that will defend your terrible behavior.

  18. Omg I am so super happy that this review was posted I am a huge fan of selling sunset although they have pretty much the same premise as selling the OC. I really thought I was the only person to see Alex Hall for the nasty manipulative person she is. The fact that she walks around as if she is God’s gift to the realty world is beyond me she is basically a poor version of Christine from selling sunset. I was so super excited to see this show. And don’t even get me started on Polly I’m still trying to figure out why the heck she is even there ????. Like girl you should have stayed over there across the pond cuz you are definitely not bringing anything to the show besides horrible outfits. And then there is Kayla child if she ain’t the definition of someone being the victim I dunno who is. They should definitely put her face right next to that word in the dictionary. Then she has the nerve to go and tell Jarvis and Rose oh the ladies were being mean to me. I mean if you weren’t trying to sleep with a married man not once not twice but three times maybe they wouldn’t think that you sleep around. Then you gonna step to the Alexandria’s like they came to you to get the tea honey no have several seats cuz you are definitely a knock off version of Amanza with lip injections. Ok rant over I like really had to find a place to let that out. I would be happy if they are not back for season two (well if it gets a season two)…

  19. I love selling sunset, do NOT like OC. I only like Rose, Jarvis and Gio, the people who are consistently bullied. Everyone else (especially Polly and Alex) are cringe-worthy.

  20. The owners should be embarrassed that they let this behavior continue. Incredibly unprofessional! This is appalling! Alex Hall and Polly especially should be ashamed of themselves- they are truly awful human beings! I can’t even say this is like mean girls from jr high because it’s so much worse! I had to stop watching after a couple episodes because it was making me Sick there are people like them in the world. I would be so embarrassed and appalled to be their mother.

  21. Alex Halls proves you only need a pair and can get far in life. Polly proves what everyone knows about modern day English women – they are vile creatures, created that way from birth through childhood. The rest of the gang just tag along for the ride.

  22. So true. Everyone besides Rose, Jarvis and Gio is toxic. I truly hated how they bully them and try to act like a victim.

  23. Agreed but I don’t understand why you got Kayla’s name wrong in the article. Like how are you supposed to be a journalist but didn’t do the most basic research to get a name right?
