The upcoming Netflix documentary joins the list of several recent releases from the streaming platform where major scandals and cases from the past have been uncovered. These films have been shedding light on past incidents that shook the world. This documentary has been directed by Brian Knappenberger who previously helmed The Trials of Gabriel Fernandez.
The movie has been produced by Orlando von Einsiedel. Ahead of the release of the film, a trailer of the same has been released by Netflix and it reveals in detail what the movie will be about. There are several interviews conducted by the director surrounding the Boy Scouts of America that will be featured in the film. The first trailer itself leaves a strong impression as it showcases some harsh truths.
The film features exclusive interviews with survivors and ex-employees as they reveal details of one of the largest child sexual abuse scandals. The documentary also consists of an interview with Michael Johnson, the Boy Scouts’ former youth protection director turned whistleblower. He first went public in 2021 about how the youth group covered up thousands of cases of child sexual abuse.
It is expected that the film will unearth how several tragic incidents and cases of abuse were buried by the Boy Scouts system and the injustice several victims have had to go through over the years. It will be deeply impactful to see how these cases were investigated.
The trailer also shows how several experts and journalists have also been interviewed to cover these sensitive stories. A number of survivors also speak up. The film follows the stories that were covered by Patrick Boyle, a journalist who wrote about the Boy Scouts’ scandal in his 1994 book Scout’s Honor. Previously, director Knappenberger’s 2020 short film Church and the Fourth Estate also examined a series of child sexual abuse allegations within the Idaho Boy Scouts that implicated the Mormon Church. The director continues to bring yet another hard-hitting film, this time on Netflix and it is expected to create a global impact.
