Romance in the House Episode 1 Recap

The drama begins with a look into Byeon Mi-rae’s life, which is filled with chaos as she pushes herself all day to ensure she becomes an ideal employee to support her family to the best of her ability. However, this zeal can be troublesome sometimes, especially after she faints at work after a rigorous inspection by the CEO of the mart where she works.

While her chemistry with her mother, Ae-yeon, at work makes her stand out during this inspection, she ends up being carried to the hospital by the security guard of the mart- a young man named Nam Tae-pyung. While she is getting her IV drips at the hospital, she gets a call informing her about a fire in the building she lives in.

Mi-rae runs home with her mother and is happy to see their dog Medal and her younger brother Hyeon-jae safe, but are soon shocked to see their landlord dead as it was his flat that was burning. A few days later, Ae-yeon finds out that they have a new landlord who has asked to meet her and two other tenants.

The result of this meeting is that she and the other two tenants have to decide who among them will be ready to move out as the new landlord needs a flat available to move in. As their contracts are soon coming to an end, one of them will have to move. Ae-yeon is shocked by this and tries to contact her old landlord’s daughter to see if she can help her.

However, she is soon met with disappointment and has no choice but to find a way that will help her stay. She calls the man whom she met a few days back and tells the story of her being a poor widow who is trying to make ends meet while her daughter is also struggling to keep their family afloat.

Unknown to her, this conversation is heard by another man who is the real owner of the villa building. Meanwhile, Mi-rae is stressed by her ex-boyfriend who is constantly texting her after their break-up. Being a woman who is not interested in marriage, her patience was tested while dating this man which made her break up with him.

Later, she comes home to see her mother preparing for her father’s memorial service and is angered by this. Ae-yeon tells her how this is his first death anniversary and it is only right for them to do this. Unable to say no to her mother, Mi-rae goes along with this and takes part in the service later that night.

While the service continues, a man steps into the villa building and enters the door that is open for Ae-yeon’s ex-husband’s spirit. After Ae-yeon finishes the service with her two children, the man walks inside and Ae-yeon is shocked to see that the person who has entered is none other than her ex-husband- Byeon Moo-jin.

Romance in the House Episode 1 Review

Romance in the House is up for an interesting start as the plot is unique and intriguing, but as this is only the first episode, many elements are lacking at the moment. The story is slowly building up a foundation right now and it is a given that the real fun is going to begin either tomorrow or next week, as the real story was set to begin with the return of Byeon Moo-jin.

While the ending did give a kick start to the real plot, there is a chance for tomorrow’s episode to have a lot of flashbacks which can strengthen the foundation of this show. Therefore, the overall plot is the biggest bait we have at the moment to watch the show. Meanwhile, Mi-rae’s character points towards the probability that we will have a love-hate opinion of her.

Let’s hope that we soon change our opinions and we get to witness the real plot soon enough. Altogether, this was a slightly intriguing and quite an entertaining beginning to the show, but I would rather wait to for more episodes before forming an opinion on the Kdrama.
