Revenant Episode 8 Recap
Munchun and Hongsae meet and reconcile. Then the detective duo analyse and observe the suicide cases from 1958 to 2023 and realise that they’re all connected. Both detectives split the objectives and proceed with finding more details. San-young visits an ophthalmologist and learns that she also has the same rare eye disease that her father Gang-mu had.
Apparently, there is no cure for it and San-young will likely lose her vision in a year or so. The doctor however adds that a year ago he met Gang-mu and saw that he looked alright. The doctor states that usually, patients would lose eyesight but luckily Gang-mu didn’t. San-young figures out that her father didn’t go blind because he was possessed by the evil spirit. She understands that her father was selfish and kept the evil spirit so he could have sight.
San-young meets her mother and then Semi, so that she can enjoy her moments with her loved ones before losing her vision completely. When she wakes up, she finds Woojin’s picture on the table. Meanwhile, Hae-sang visits Baekchagol and invites the darkness ghost by smearing his blood on the North Jangseung.

The village head calls San-young and asks her to help Hae-sang. San-young is now able to see ghosts without a mirror. She watches the room (where Hae-sang sits in a trance) get slowly covered by a dark shadow. She learns from the village lady that Hae-sang’s death is near as the darkness ghost will soon take over him. To save him, San-young realises that she should be in the light.

She takes Hae-sang in her car and drives to the east so that when the sun rises, he’ll be saved. They both narrowly escape the darkness spirits. San-young confronts Hae-sang and tells that though she knows he’s not at fault she finds it hard to forgive him.
Meanwhile, Hongsae and Munchun gather every necessary document to get a lead in the suicide cases. Hong-sae learns that whenever the suicides happened, a lead was present but evidence couldn’t be found (this is because the ghost takes the form of a person). When Munchun finds crucial data, he calls Hae-sang.
Hae-sang and San-young visit a temple where the hungry ghost spirit painting is at. After San-young showed the picture of Woojin to him, Hae-sang tells her how Woojin was his only friend who threw himself at a running vehicle after he found he was possessed. As they were about to leave, Hae-sang notices a poster and learns from a monk that Gang-mu buried a plant there in memory of a deceased person.

Hae-sang tells San-young that to stop the evil spirit, one must bury the objects at the place where the evil spirit killed someone. This is why the buried objects were found at places where death happened. The duo then dig the plant area and uncover another object of the evil spirit. If they can find the remaining two they will have a way to end the evil spirit.
San-young questions Hae-sang that if her father was finding the objects and was trying to end the spirit, why was he killed. A perplexed Hae-sang tells her that they need to find something that both his mother and her father missed out on. Just then San-young goes into a trance and figures that there’s going to be another victim.
Hae-sang calls Munchun and warns him that he shouldn’t open the door no matter who knocks. Munchun agrees and allows only Hongsae inside. When the knocking on the door begins, Munchun asks Hongsae to not open the door. When they hear Hae-sang’s voice, Munchun allows Hongsae to open the door and finds the possessed San-young smiling vilely at him.
Revenant Episode 8 Review
As expected Munchun is now in great danger and might not survive because once the door is open, nobody can save the victim. The chances of Hongsae saving Munchun are quite less. However, if San-young and Hae-sang reach in time, maybe Munchun might escape. Through this incident, Hongsae will finally believe in ghosts and start assisting San-young and Hae-sang to stop the evil spirit.

The episode provides more insight into the life of Gang-mu and how he came into possession of the cursed object. It’s also known that he used the evil spirit selfishly for his vision power but when he wanted to end it, the evil spirit took over and killed him. If San-young also tries to get rid of the spirit, she will face big consequences as well.
