Ranma ½ 2024 Episode 6 Recap

Ranma ½ 2024 Episode 7 Review How To Use Underhanded Methods

In this episode, we meet a new character, Kodachi, known as the Black Rose, who wields a gymnastic whip with great skill. Right from the start, she showcases her abilities by taking down three opponents right in front of Ranma’s female form.

It turns out that Kodachi is from St. Bacchus School and competes against the gymnasts of Ranma’s High School. She’s not above using dirty tricks and will resort to cheating if it helps her win. Knowing how ruthless Kodachi is, the gymnasts turn to Akane for help. Although she’s willing to step in, there’s a catch—Akane isn’t exactly great at gymnastics.

The episode is packed with plenty of entertaining moments, especially with the chaotic love interests popping up around the main pair. Ryoga, who can turn into a piglet, takes advantage of his transformation to stay close to Akane. Ranma notices this and becomes obviously jealous, but instead of exposing Ryoga’s secret, he opts to spar with him constantly.

To add to the chaos, Kodachi develops an intense, obsessive crush on Ranma after he rescues her. We also find out she’s the younger sister of Kuno Senpai, leading to an awkward situation where both Ranma and Akane have admirers they’re not interested in.

As Akane is injured, Ranma steps in to save himself from the fate of dating Kodachi. Ryoga promises Akane that he will train Ranma appropriately and will make sure that they win the tournament. However, that is not his actual plan. Ryoga also gets to know that if Ranma loses the upcoming match, then he will have to end his relationship with Akane and begin courting Kodachi. This is a very favourable situation for Ryoga, who has started to have feelings for Akane. Thus, instead of helping him, he tries his best to jeopardise Ranma, be it in his human form or in his pig form.

On the day of the competition, Ranma, sleep-deprived, reaches the tournament venue but is also greeted with numerous underhanded methods of Kodachi. She utilises any and every trick possible to stop Ranma from participating without realising, in front of her, it is the female version of her crush. Thankfully, Akane, each and every time, sees through all the deceptions and even saves Ranma, in a harsh manner, from the traps.

When the battle begins, things go in a completely different direction than what you would expect. The stage is obviously huge as everyone will see a star athlete like Kodachi fight for her love. However, the most hilarious as well as absolutely unhinged part of the show is that there is literally no rule about how one must fight. We see Kodachi cheat left and right while no one bats an eye regarding the very controversial ways being used.

And by controversial, I mean Kodachi throwing a chair, even her own biological brother, at her opponent. However, Ranma was also fighting his level best because he knew he must get rid of another annoying fangirl, specifically someone like Kuno’s little sister.

Verdict

Today’s episode was funny and delightful because you get to see a fast-paced battle where no rule applies. The setup is indeed comedy-centric, yet it is astonishing how good the action set pieces are in this anime. This episode again did not disappoint, and, at least, I was highly entertained till the end.
