Phantom Lawyer Episode 9 Recap
How do Na-hyun and So-hyun reunite, and what do they do together before So-hyun moves on?
The episode picks up from the part where Na-hyun realises Yi-rang has been possessed by her sister, So-hyun. She embraces her sister, who is physically Yi-rang, and refuses to let her go. After this, Na-hyun tells So-hyun to spend some time with her before she passes on. The sisters spend some much-needed days with each other, where they play board games and even have a sleepover. Back at Do-kyung’s office, his father finally returns, and a clear tension is evident between the father and son.
Things further get complicated when it is revealed that Do-kyung’s father and Yi-rang’s father used to be friends. Here, Do-kyung’s father offers help to Yi-rang, and Do-kyung becomes really uncomfortable in the process. On the other hand, Yi-rang spends the whole day with Na-hyun, as her sister and even dresses up in feminine clothes. They also go camping and then go to a bar, where So-hyun asks an uncomfortable question to Na-hyun. This makes So-hyun leave her sister with Yi-rang for a bit.
What do Na-hyun and Yi-rang decide about So-hyun’s presence in the mortal world?
Here, Na-hyun and Yi-rang discuss many things, but mostly they talk about what to do with So-hyun. Na-hyun insists her sister can stay with her, but Yi-rang reminds her that So-hyun shouldn’t stay in the mortal world. Later, Na-hyun plans to spend one day with So-hyun, without the help of Yi-rang and realises just how futile it is to keep her sister’s soul bound on Earth. So-hyun also learns that her stay will not solve the bigger problem, and it is better for everyone if she moves on.
But before that, there is one thing that So-hyun must do for her sister. She takes it upon herself to help Na-hyun mend her relationship with their parents. Here, it gets revealed that their mother blamed Na-hyun for So-hyun’s death. This created a barrier between them, as Na-hyun tried to keep herself away from her parents from then on. However, thanks to So-hyun, things finally get better among her family members. Na-hyun also gets to spend her birthday with her family, including the soul of her sister.
How does the episode conclude for So-hyun and Na-hyun?
Towards the end, So-hyun does go back after embracing Na-hyun for one last time. And though Na-hyun feels very sad, she accepts the reality with open arms. Interestingly, Yi-rang asks Na-hyun to join him at his firm, and she agrees to assist him, at least till she finds a suitable place of her own.
Phantom Lawyer Episode 9 Review
This episode was definitely the most emotionally charged of this series. It beautifully showed and celebrated the sisterly bond between So-hyun and Na-hyun. Although the episode didn’t strongly connect the central pair, it still leaves us with a sense of hope for new bonds forming among them by the end.
The actors also did a great job of making the audience believe their pain and happiness, especially Esom, who played the part of Na-hyun really well. Yoo Yeon-seok also gave a grounded performance that complemented his supporting aspect of this segment well enough.
