This episode begins with Na-hyeon’s sister, So-hyun, coming to Yi-rang. At first, she doesn’t realise that she has died and possesses Yi-rang when she sees some bullies beating up a kid. She goes into that area and beats the kids up, which gets Yi-rang arrested. Now this is a very controversial situation because Na-hyeon becomes Yi-rang’s lawyer, and she clearly displays animosity towards him. This does not sit well with her sister, who never saw Na-hyeon like that before. Previously, Na-hyeon was someone who loved music and was very bubbly. However, it is clear that after her sister died, Na-hyeon became cold-hearted and started to distance herself from her family.

Later, we see that the bullies got Do-kyung as their lawyer, who is dead set on getting dirt on Yi-rang. On the other hand, So-hyun goes to visit her home and realises just how broken her family is after her death. She also expresses these feelings with Yi-rang, who talks to her about her pain. He also assured her that he would help her out. However, he himself is in a grave situation because after getting sued, he will have to pay the kids money for the settlement. This whole fiasco can also revoke his licence as a lawyer, and that is something they must work together to stop.

Thus, Yi-rang makes So-hyun tail the kid who got bullied. Yi-rang also goes to speak with him while being possessed by So-hyun. He manages to get information that the bullied kid was filmed naked, and that is how those bullies were traumatising him. Yi-rang also gets joined by Na-hyeon to help the kid out in any way possible. They decided that they would get the video from those bullies’ phones in any way possible and delete it by hook or by crook. However, the whole process becomes a huge mess as Do-kyung also gets involved.

Things become worse when the bullied kid goes to his bully with the intention of killing him for making him suffer. But he does not really kill him, and just beats him, showcasing his own bravery. Just at the right moment, Na-hyeon comes to reveal the truth about the whole thing in front of Do-kyung, who becomes baffled with his loss. Here, Do-kyung tries to tell Na-hyeon that Yi-rang can actually see ghosts, so that she leaves his side. Though she rejects his idea, she does become suspicious of Yi-rang and goes to find him. Towards the end, she finally realises that Yi-rang was not lying and he indeed can see ghosts.

Na-hyeon also learned that Yi-rang was possessed by So-hyun.

Phantom Lawyer Episode 8 Review

Today’s episode was really nice, and even though it did not involve So-hyun directly, I liked how her presence was important in this case. The emotional tone definitely landed pretty nicely, and I am definitely hoping to see more moments between Yi-rang and Na-hyeon.
