The week has started interestingly as the new Oppenheimer trailer has now dropped online. Directed by Christopher Nolan and starring Cillian Murphy in the titular role, it is one of the much-awaited films of 2023. Since the project was announced, fans of the director and the actor have been waiting for a deep insight into how exactly they plan to tell the story of such a controversial figure. Well, the new trailer has shown us both sides, but it’s a fact that humanity was never the same because of this one person.
To those unaware, Nolan’s upcoming release is a biographical film on J Robert Oppenheimer, an American theoretical physicist who invented the atomic bomb/nuclear weapons. He was also cited as the ‘father of the atomic bomb’. The screenplay is adapted from Kai Bird and Martin J Sherwin’s 2005 book, American Prometheus.

National Emergency
In Oppenheimer new trailer, Cillian’s Robert justifies testing the first-ever nuclear bomb by giving the reason of a “national emergency”. The others around him, especially Lieutenant General Leslie Richard Groves Jr (Matt Damon), agree. So what was the national emergency exactly? Well, Robert states that they’re up against the Nazis, and chances are they already have a bomb. Hence, testing the most deadly weapon in the world was a must for him during World War II.
The Stellar Cast
Since the film was announced, several big names were reported to be a part of Christopher Nolan’s highly ambitious project. We already know that Cillian Murphy and Matt Damon are a part of it.
In the trailer, we finally get a glimpse of actors Robert Downey Jr, Emily Blunt, Josh Peck, Florence Pugh Jack Quaid, and the blink-and-miss appearance of Rami Malek. Both Emily and Florence have a significant part to play. However, along with Cillian, RDJ has caught our attention. He looks unrecognisable. We see him only briefly, but it was enough to raise our expectations.

Powerful Human Destruction Weapon
So at what point does J Robert Oppenheimer realise that the nuclear bomb is a big mistake? Well, that realisation happens in the second half of the trailer. People around him are concerned if the bomb will truly ensure peace to humankind with the end of World War II! Benny Safdie, who plays Edward Teller, asks the physicist, what will happen if somebody builds a bigger bomb? Then begins the montage of unsettling scenes, and the button is pushed!
Release Format
As mentioned earlier, this is a passion project for Nolan. So he wants to release it in the best way possible. Cinegoers can watch the movie on the big screen on 70MM, 35MM and IMAX screens. It is shot with IMAX film cameras, so one can definitely expect the visuals to be terrific and also terrifying.
Oppenheimer Release Date
It is slated to release on July 21, 2023. Christopher Nolan’s directorial will clash with Greta Gerwig’s Barbie, which stars Margot Robbie, Ryan Gosling, Emma Mackey and Simu Liu.
