Obi Wan Kenobi Episode 6 Review: Another Showdown With Lightsaber Fight

Obi Wan Kenobi Episode 6 is now out on Disney+ Hotstar. The Star Wars show stars Ewan McGregor as Obi-Wan Kenobi/Ben, Hayden Christensen as Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader, Sung Kang as the Fifth Brother, Moses Ingram as Reva Sevander/Third Sister, Joel Edgerton as Owen Lards, Simone Kessel as Breha Organa, Vivien Lyra Blair as Leia Organa, Jimmy Smits as Senator Bail Organa, Kumail Nanjiani as Haja Estree, Grant Feely as Luke Skywalker and Indira Varma as Tala.

Directed by Deborah Chow, the 48 minutes episode is written by Stuart Beattie, Job Harold and Andrew Stanton. The last episode’s plot is simply described – The action-packed special event finale.

Obi Wan Kenobi Episode 6 Recap Contains Spoilers

After Obi Wan Kenobi successfully flies away along with Leia and others, Darth Vader attempts to attack their ship. Kenobi realises that if he stays on the ship, people won’t make it safely to Tessen. Kenobi decides to get off the ship and face Vader. Leia is not happy with his decision. But Haja Estree makes her understand the situation. Leia is sad but understands why Kenobi wants to leave. The Jedi master tells Haja to take Leia safely to Alderan.

When Obi Wan exits using another ship, Darth Vader notices it. He tells his people to stop attacking others and follow only Kenobi. Vader/Anakin Skywalker says he wants to face Kenobi alone. The two finally come face to face again. There’s an exchange of words and fights with the lightsaber.

Darth Vader calls Kenobi strong but also has a lot of weaknesses. Initially, Vader succeeds in defeating Kenobi. But the moments spend with Leia and remembering Luke make Kenobi stronger again. Yet again, he succeeds in defeating Anakin Skywalker. However, this time, Kenobi knows that Anakin is entirely gone. Kenobi finally addresses Anakin as ‘Darth’.

Obi Wan Kenobi Episode 6 Still 2

After learning about Luke’s whereabouts in Obi Wan Kenobi Episode 5, Reva lands on Tatooine in search of Luke. Someone warns Owen about Reva looking for Luke. Owen and Beru take out their guns and fight Reva to protect Reva. Even when Reva has the opportunity to kill Luke, she doesn’t do it. Reva realises she is becoming the monster she had decided to fight against.

The finale ended with some heartwarming moments featuring Leia, Obi-Wan and Luke. Darth Vader has only become evil and would go to any extent to get his hands on Kenobi and others again.

Obi Wan Kenobi Episode 6 Review: Discussion

Deborah Chow added many action-packed lightsaber fight scenes; we saw both Vader and Kenobi using their force and power to fight each other and how Owen-Beru would go to any extent to protect Luke Skywalker. The dialogue exchange between Obi-Wan and Darth was also quite impactful. Yet, the finale seemed quite convenient overall.

Actor Ewan McGregor has displayed a lot of emotions and given an exceptional performance in the titular role of Obi-Wan Kenobi. We always talk about how Anakin/Darth Vader is a complex character. But Kenobi has been in the hide for 10 years and suddenly meets the past and learns so many shocking truths about others, especially Anakin. Ewan has displayed the pain, the power and the determination of Kenobi very well throughout.

Obi Wan Kenobi Episode 6 Still 1

Hayden Christensen is quite underrated and played his part well as Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader (James Earl Jones voiced Vader). However, I wish there were more scenes featuring him. In the Obi Wan Kenobi finale, the scene where he’s half Anakin/Vader is terrifying. Child actor Vivien Lyra Blair got Princess Leia Organa right. The actor is a bundle full of talent and makes you like Leia instantly.

Obi Wan Kenobi Finale Review: Final Thoughts

Overall, the series turned out to be enjoyable fan service. Obi Wan Kenobi’s last episode has given a conclusion to every plot tackled in the Disney+ show. We know how Kenobi got to know Anakin’s new identity, how Leia and Kenobi met, when Luke and Kenobi met, and more. It filled the gaps in the timeline after the prequel and before the sequel.

Watch the last episode on Disney+ Hotstar.
