My Dress-Up Darling Season 2 Episode 9 Recap

In this episode, Marin reaches out to Sajuna Inui to join their planned “Coffin” group cosplay, but Juju initially declines, as she cosplays only on her terms. However, when her younger sister Shinju expresses heartfelt excitement over the idea, Juju relents and joins the team, bringing the group back to six members as they assign characters and prepare designs.

Tensions bubble below the surface, though. In a quieter moment, Akira’s discomfort around Marin becomes evident. Amane, the observant one, picks up on it. When confronted, Akira admits she simply doesn’t like Marin, leaving the reasoning unsaid. Gojo overhears this and becomes visibly unsettled.

Later, Gojo and Marin return to her place for a cosy gaming night. However, train service disruptions strand him there overnight. Marin insists he stay the night, which flusters Gojo. To avoid the implication of a “sleepover,” he buys energy drinks, planning to stay awake, and inadvertently screens at the 18+ aisle, sparking a hilarious misunderstanding when Marin walks in.

This episode starts with the hilarious misunderstanding between Marin and Gojo. Here, Marin thinks that Gojo wants to spend the night with him in a sexual way, but that is not what is on Gojo’s mind. Marin believes Gojo has made all the preparations for it, but she cannot be more wrong than that. Gojo just wanted to spend the night without sleeping and bought energy drinks for that matter, but Marin took his intention in a different kind of way. The contrast between their perspectives creates a playful tension, perfectly capturing the awkward charm of their dynamic and making every little action feel exaggeratedly meaningful.

Later, Gojo’s resolve to not sleep comes off as intense smoulder to Marin, adding to the hilarity. There even comes a time when Marin falls down from the sofa, and Gojo goes to check on her. However, she perceives this as him taking the first step towards their intimacy. After that, Marin conveniently falls asleep, and Gojo returns to his game, which also serves as a comedy moment. While playing the game, Gojo becomes so engrossed with the content that he completely forgets about everything.

After that incident, Marin becomes very embarrassed because she had cooked up a whole scenario in her head and believed it. She even thought that they could finally start dating, and even decided that she would finally tell him that she likes him. But she is worried that he will reject her, as there’s a high chance he just sees her as a friend. Marin is also afraid that he will start ignoring her in the worst-case scenario.
