Quagmire Rudeus is gaining notoriety in Mushoku Tensei Season 2 Episode 4, and his quest to find his mother nearly seems to be at an end. Let’s see how it went in this review!
Mushoku Tensei Season 2 Episode 4 Overview

Mushoku Tensei, also known as Mushoku Tensei Jobless Reincarnation or Mushoku Tensei Isekai Ittara Honki Dasu in original Japanese, is an adventure, drama and fantasy anime based on a light novel series written by Rifujin na Magonote and illustrated by Sirotaka. This episode is also known as Mushoku Tensei Jobless Reincarnation Season 2 Episode 4 and Mushoku Tensei Isekai Ittara Honki Dasu Season 2 Episode 4.
The latest season of the anime is being directed by Hiroki Hirano, who served as an assistant director of the second part of the show’s first season. However, the studio that produces and adapts the anime remains the same, as that responsibility again falls to Studio Bind, who haven’t really done anything other than Mushoku Tensei. Mushoku Tensei Season 2 Episode 4 Review- Letter of Invitation

If there’s one uncontestable positive about this season so far, it is that the music used has been absolutely exquisite. I have no qualms about the quality of the delightful and period-appropriate tunes that the show has always featured and continues to in this season. However, it doesn’t feature some of the music enough. Some episodes, like this one, go by without us even hearing the opening theme play, which is a downright crime, given how good it is. Come on, Studio Bind. You can do some more montages to play the opening over.

Rudeus is getting better with time. Not only has he accepted his erectile dysfunction as a part of him that can’t be glossed over and which will be there until he figures out a way to resolve it. Naturally, this is also the best time to introduce the horniest character in the show to him, Elinalise. That kills two birds with one stone, essentially. Elinalise can give Rudeus the important information that he needs to learn about the current whereabouts of his mother, and she also can’t seduce him to bed, given his state. It is a win-lose-lose scenario, as she and Rudeus both lose, but the audience wins.

This is also the first time Roxy and Rudeus have had just a single degree of separation in literal years, and it is always a delight to see the show moving the plot forward significantly. That is also a much-needed relief from the previous episodes of this season, where the plot did not appear to be moving forward data all. The show now feels like the first season once again, which is a fantastic thing, as the quality of the pilot season was extraordinary.

We also see the Man-God once again, and his character has already been one that adds a lot of mystique to the overall happenings of the show. Who he is, why he doesn’t get along with the Dragon-God, and why Rudeus was almost killed just for mentioning his name in front of a Sword King are mysteries that increase the interest the show can generate. His interactions with Rudeus are also always great and lead to funny back-and-forths that usually lead to Rudeus reaping the rewards of them.

This time, the reward is the exact kind of magic Rudeus needs right now. Mushoku Tensei Season 2 Episode 4 sees Rudeus having to be convinced to make the decision he left home for in the first place, as he gets a letter of invitation from the exact school Roxy recommended, and he wants to take Sylphie to. We see him struggle with the decision, but based on the information the Man-God and Elinalise give him, it would be too much of a waste for him not to take the opportunity.
Verdict
Mushoku Tensei Season 2 Episode 4 was a fantastic episode that moved Rudeus’ tale forward by a lot, and the show finally feels like it has a direction again.
