Miss Night and Day Episode 9 Recap

Ji-ung stops Mi-jin’s kiss by blocking it with his hand. This makes her run out to her friend’s house. Later, Mi-jin’s reaction to a kiss scene prompts Ga-yeong to take her friend out grocery shopping as she realises her friend has done something. At the shop, they see Ji-ung. Mi-jin, unable to confront him, decides to walk away. Meanwhile, a significant plot twist reveals that fentanyl was found in the blood of Mr. Baek’s wife, linking him to a series of murders over the past two decades.

As Ji-ung investigates, he connects an amputated arm and a severed foot found with traces of fentanyl, leading him to suspect the second victim might still be alive. His research suggests that the Daeho reservoir is the only location that hasn’t been searched. Concurrently, Mi-jin’s frustration with Ji-ung leads to tense interactions. Byung-duk misinterprets the closeness between Ko Won and Lim Sun, suspecting a romantic relationship.

The plot thickens when Ko Won receives an anonymous letter claiming that one of the interns has lied about their identity, posing a potential threat to Mi-jin. Ji-ung reopens the investigation and has the police search the Daeho reservoir, much to the dismay of the senior prosecutor. The discovery of Ko Na-eun’s body triggers a painful memory for Ji-ung, who recalls searching for his missing mother as a child. This revelation adds a personal dimension to Ji-ung’s determination to solve the case.

The team decides to investigate Mr. Baek’s hospital, using Lim Sun’s supposed stomach ache as a cover. The episode ends with a startling revelation: blood reports show discrepancies in Lim Sun’s blood type, hinting at a deeper mystery involving Mr. Baek.

Miss Night and Day Episode 9 Review

The ninth episode delivers a gripping narrative filled with twists and character development, but it has flaws. The interaction between Mi-Jin and Ga-Yeong, leading to an awkward grocery store encounter with Ji-Ung, adds layers to their relationship but could have been more smoothly integrated.

The significant reveal about fentanyl in Mr. Baek’s wife’s blood is a pivotal moment, tying him to a long string of murders. This plot point is well-executed and adds depth to the storyline, though it raises questions about why he continues his killing spree despite mounting evidence against him. Ji-ung’s investigation, pointing towards the Daeho reservoir, adds suspense but the transition to this discovery could benefit from tighter pacing to maintain the tension.

Mi-jin’s frustration with Ji-ung and the subsequent misunderstandings with Byung-duk provide insight into their complex dynamics, yet these scenes sometimes veer into melodrama, risking a disconnect with the audience. Ko Won’s mysterious letter about an intern’s false identity introduces an intriguing subplot, though it feels somewhat shoehorned into the already dense narrative.

The episode’s climax, featuring the discovery of Ko Na-eun’s body and Ji-ung’s emotional flashback, is a powerful moment that deepens his character. However, the sudden shift to Mi-jin and Ji-ung’s awkward dinner, followed by a drunken car ride, dilutes the impact of this revelation. The investigation into Mr. Baek’s hospital is a highlight, showcasing the team’s resourcefulness, but the scene where Lim Sun searches for evidence feels rushed and could benefit from more buildup.

The episode ends on a cliffhanger with the blood test results, effectively setting up future episodes. Despite some pacing issues and occasionally over-the-top drama, the series successfully advances the plot and deepens character relationships, maintaining the overall intrigue and suspense.
