MasterChef Australia Season 15 Episode 1 Review: Celebrating Food
MasterChef Australia Season 15 Episode 1 brings in a guest chef-judge that blows everyone’s minds. After welcoming and handing over the designated set of aprons to the contestants, the judges announce the entry of the famous restaurateur and author- Jamie Oliver! The household cooking name is going to stay in the show for a while it seems and he is here with secrets and surprises as the season’s theme goes.
This episode also offers us two new things, one of them being the return of Brent, who was a cook in season 13 of the show and had to leave due to his degrading mental health. Seeing him back in the kitchen really got some memories of the old days back. The other new thing was not revealed until the end of the episode as it turned out to be an advantage that the MasterChef kitchen has never seen before.
For MasterChef Australia Season 15’s first challenge, the contestants were asked to cook a special secret dish that would land them in the good books and ultimately make them eligible for the advantage. However, out of all the cooks, there could only be one winner, so the cooking began with one hour and 30 minutes in hand.

From a tart-y rebranding of Ferrero Rocher by Rue to Ramen by Adi, Pasta by Cath and Ravioli by Jessica and Ralph, the episode progressed slowly as we got to know some of the contestants in detail. We saw Brent prepare a tamarind glazed pork chop for his comeback dish. On the other hand, 65-year-old Robbie served us Chilli King Crab. But, with the highs, there were some lows like Cath’s Pork Ragu not being the perfect pick for the challenge as the judges noted and, the same goes for Brent’s dish.
However, there were a set of dishes that really left an impact on all the judges: Larissa’s Borscht and Pampushky- Larissa, Alice’s Chestnut Moon-Chi and Rue’s Hazelnut Tart.
MasterChef Australia Season 15 Episode 1: Final Thoughts
Overall, MasterChef Australia Season 15 Episode 1 started off well. The dishes presented were a little weak, except for what Alice brought to the table. Having said that, it is important to note that this is just the starting week and it always picks up slowly as it is the first time the home cooks are experiencing professional cooking.
Larissa was the one who ultimately won the advantage. Revealed at the end of the episode in the golden box was a second chance apron, which is something that can change the game and Larissa’s path in the show forever.
