The movie left us completely stunned with its ending and, yes, even we spent days wondering what actually happened to Ella at the end of it all. As far as psychological horror goes, the film did have a strong theme and a terrifying set of visuals to keep us at the edge of our seats.

Clock marks the debut of Alexis Jacknow, who has written as well as directed the movie. It is produced by Leal Naim, under the banner of 20th Digital Studio. The music is by Stephen Lukach with cinematographer Martim Viam as part of the team alongside Alexandra Amick as the editor for the film. The cast of the film includes Dianna Agron as Ella Patel, Jay Ali as Aidan Patel, Melora Hardin as Dr. Elizabeth Simmons and Saul Rubinek as Joseph.

A medical trial stands at the centre of Clock and, that is also how the movie tells its story. The movie chronicles the story of a young boy, who is the titular character of the film. He suffers from a rare autoimmune disease and is taken to a private medical facility to be cured by his parents but, what follows is pure devastation. It is directed by Ciarán Foy, based on a story by Chirchirillo and, stars Kelly Reilly, Sadie Sink, Lili Taylor, Max Martini, and Charlie Shotwell. You can watch it on Netflix.

We Need to Talk About Kevin

This 2011 psychological drama is directed by Lynne Ramsay. The screenplay is co-written by Ramsay and Rory Stewart Kinnear that is based on the novel of the same name by Lionel Shriver. It stars Tilda Swinton as Eva Khatchadourian, John C. Reilly as Franklin Plaskett and Ezra Miller as Kevin Khatchadourian in major roles. The story revolves around the mother, Eva, who is struggling with her psychopathic son, Kevin and his horrifying deeds. It is available on Amazon Prime Video.

Goodnight Mommy

A recent release that has gotten everyone talking with an ending that is as confusing as Clock, this 2022 film is directed by Matt Sobel and written by Kyle Warren. It is the remake of the 2014 film of the same name by Veronika Franz and Severin Fiala. Both films are about a pair of twin brothers who are suspecting their mother to be an imposter after she returns from surgery that leaves her face covered with bandages. The cast includes Naomi Watts, Cameron and Nicholas Crovetti, Crystal Lucas-Perry, Jeremy Bobb, and Peter Hermann. The film is on Amazon Prime Video.

Side Effects

Can we ever make a psychological horror movie list and not include one that actually features a psychologist or a psychiatrist? The short answer is, obviously, no! Side Effects is about a woman prescribed to be on certain experimental drugs by two psychiatrists after her husband comes out of prison. The major roles in the film are played by Jude Law, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Channing Tatum and Rooney Mara.

Black Swan

Hallucinations are the root cause of so many crimes in a psychological horror film, that one might contemplate their own reality. This award-winning film revolves around that concept and so much more, where we meet an innocent and fragile ballerina who slips into madness as she tries to perfect herself. The ensemble cast includes Natalie Portman, Vincent Cassel, Mila Kunis, Barbara Hershey and Winona Ryder. Watch it on Disney+ Hotstar.

Clock has already had its world premiere at the Overlook Film Festival in New Orleans on March 31, 2023. It is now available for viewing on Disney+ as well as Hulu for viewing.
