In the green team, we have Micheal, Keyma, Alvin, Montana, Harry and Mindy. The team captain is Alvin. In the yellow team, we have Julie, Billie, Steph, Aldo, Daniel and Sarah. The team picks Steph as the captain. The contestants are to take inspiration from a Van Gogh painting- Trees and Undergrowth. The teams are instructed to make a three-course meal inspired by the woods.

They are given two and a half hours to prepare their meal serving thirty diners, plus the judges. The pantry consists of all kinds of natural ingredients. And, the team that wins this challenge will be heading to compete in the upcoming immunity challenge alongside Tommy. The teams quickly head to work.

We see the green team planning their meals first and they opt for a three-tier meal from a bird’s point of view. A starter that reflects the canopy of the forest, the main course with the depth of the leaves and a dessert representing the forest floor. As for the yellow team, they decide to do a life cycle in the forest for their dish. They lay down their plan: for entree something bright and green, followed by the main course reflecting a forest fire and should be dark and earthy and, ending with a dessert representing fresh greens as a symbol of the reemergence of life.

It is amazing to see the cooks get into their zone and cook a dish out of such an abstract concept. Both Alvin and Steph’s imagination of the meal course is stunning and it is exciting for everyone to get to the final dish of the day. Soon enough the entree service starts. The green team’s entree- The Canopy is served. It consists of pea and goat’s cheese puree, black bali and leafy greens, served with a lemon zest spray for a multisensory experience. And, it is called the perfect dish for the surrounding.

The yellow team’s entree is called Entering the Forest. It is made up of green tortellini with peas. Even though the filling is delicious along with the broth, yet the dish does not feel quite complete to the judges. The time for the main arrives but, the yellow team seems to lag a bit with it. The green team’s main is the first to be served and is called A Bull in the New Forest- roasted wagyu, macadamia puree, roasted and pickled mushrooms and roasted beet leaves. The judges really like the dish be it plating, texture or taste.

The main by the yellow team arrives after and is called Forest Fire. It has a native spiced lamb with chard leaves and macadamia cream. The judges appreciate the concept but, the dish doesn’t come together yet again. Green team’s dessert, a Forrest Floor is what comes next. It is a mushroom ice cream, pickled blackberries, fresh raspberries and chocolate twigs. The judges don’t dig the flavour palette of the forest floor concept as the mushroom ice cream seems to be drained out by the other elements.

Regrowth by the yellow team is the dessert and the final dish of the day in MasterChef Australia Season 14 Episode 33. It is a choux pastry with rhubarb. The judges love the dish so much that they know straight away that it is by Billie.
