Dramedy Maamla Legal Hai is a hilarious look at a court and its lawyers & advocates in their everyday lives and through their trials and tribulations in this competitive and thrilling environment. When we hear the term courtroom, one thinks this is going to be a dark and gritty watch which can be a heavy burden on our day. But the Ravi Kishan and Naila Grewal starrer is light and entertaining as every episode deals with a different insane story based on true events.

Every episode of the series is a different story, with one overarching narrative about the principal cast’s lives. While VD Tyagi desperately wants to be the bar president, Ananya Shroff wants to simply start her professional career but comes across various odd issues at the District Court of Patparganj. She comes across various people on her first day and becomes close to two of them, Sujata Negi and Vishwas Pandey, who become an integral part of her coming to terms with her new life.
Although only 30 minutes long, this dramedy is rather warm, funny and entertaining, so much so that the characters in this series become close to your heart towards the end of 8 episodes. Surprisingly short but full of heart and laughs, these people might be a little twisted and corrupt, but they aren’t bad people. These are grey characters with small hopes and dreams and you so fiercely want them to succeed in their quest and feel happy at the end of it.
Delightful characters also make for several delightful stories throughout 8 episodes which showcase every character’s depths, regardless of how small, and make things funny while also bringing out the atrocities taking place in society, especially towards the poorer section of the society. Although the main cast is what draws us in, it’s the supporting cast that makes us stay and leaves us laughing even during tense times, with Anant Joshi’s Vishwas Pandey becoming so delightfully sweet that you can’t help but love him whenever he is on-screen.

The short 30-minute runtime is the right amount to keep us entertained and the storytelling is tight and well-told such that you can’t help but be thrilled. The insane stories, based on true stories that can only happen in India, are hilarious and sometimes unbelievable and showcased in such a nuanced way, that it just leaves you laughing and amused. However, it’s the emotional depths of all the characters that truly steal the spotlight for me. I loved the human stories, the need for the characters to do the right thing (most of the time) and their personal journeys that end in them winning the long battle.
When the series ends, thus, you might just be left with tears in your eyes thanks to the heartfelt, sincere and inspiring ending. I must, however, say that the ending was just a little rushed and I had some questions nagging at my brain which were not answered but the series’ uplifting tone is what sets the mood and doesn’t let anything else take over.
Ravi Kishan, Nidhi Bisht, Anant V Joshi, Naila Grewal, Anjum Batra, Vijay Rajoria, Yashpal Sharma and Tanvi Azmi are such integral parts of this show that it would be a shame to have not seen one of them here. Every member of the cast plays their roles with such sincerity and a little mischief that you root for them throughout. Even when they are trying to do the right thing the wrong way, there’s something about these simple characters that brings them close to our hearts.
Maamla Legal Hai Review: Conclusion

In the end, Maamla Legal Hai is a must-watch, at least for those who want to laugh and feel that warm fuzzy feeling in their hearts this weekend. It’s a short series but with earnest performances and a sweet and simple story that makes you smile by the end of every episode. However, it’s the characters of this series that win our hearts by the end of the runtime.
