Lust Stories 2 Review: Mixed Bag of Hot and Cold Stories

Lust Stories 2 Review: Netflix’s anthology is directed by R. Balki, Sujoy Ghosh, Konkona Sensharma, and Amit Ravindernath Sharma. The series stars Neena Gupta, Mrunal Thakur, Angad Bedi, Tamannaah Bhatia, Vijay Varma, Amruta Shubhash, Tillotama Shome, Kajol, Kumud Mishra, and Anushka Kaushik. There are a total of four films of 20–30 minutes each.

Lust Stories 2 Review Contains No Spoilers At All

Chapter 1: Made for Each Other

R. Balki’s story stars Neena Gupta, Angad Bedi, and Mrunal Thakur. The story focuses on the importance of sexual compatibility between a couple before marriage. The concept sounds bold, especially if the person promoting sex positivity is the grandmother, played by Neena Gupta. The first 10 minutes leave you curious about what the director is trying to convey. But the message is exactly what’s been said from the beginning. It’s a fun watch, but the ending doesn’t pack a punch.

Neena Gupta never misses a chance to win hearts with her incredible performance. She is cool, sexy, and quite amusing.

Chapter 2: The Mirror

It’s good to see a story about lust from a woman’s point of view in The Mirror. Stalking and invasion of privacy are serious crimes. But when it comes to lust and pleasure, does a person know the boundaries? Konkona’s story is hilariously entertaining and a brave attempt to explore female sexuality. You can’t stop facepalming at the characters, but you also enjoy what’s happening. In a way, as viewers, we can’t stop looking at a character looking at other people’s private business. It felt like watching an episode of Netflix’s You, but no one’s a murderer here.

Playing the characters Tillotama and Amruta portrayed in the series takes courage. They’re amazing, and credit also goes to Konkona for directing two skilled actors in an unexpected way.

At one point, I said to myself, “This is what it means when women say we are always there to help other queens.”

Chapter 3: Sex With Ex

The weakest story in Netflix’s Lust Stories 2 is by Sujoy Ghosh. It’s a predictable and bizarre tale that lacks eros and even madness. Vijay Varma’s act is repetitive. Even Tamannaah Bhatia’s sex appeal can’t save the story. The set-up looks like a fancy movie set, which is purely intentional. But it also acts as a spoiler, making you guess the big reveal in the end.

Chapter 4: Tilchatta

Amit Ravindernath Sharma presents us with a distressing story of lust and desire (trigger warning: rape, alcohol abuse, domestic violence). Kajol is seen in a never-seen-before avatar, but it is Kumud Mishra who startles us with his disturbing but brilliant performance. The story is about marital rape and the struggle to free oneself from the tough life one willingly chose for themselves. It’s a gloomy, depressing story that shows us the consequences of desire turning into lust.

Lust Stories 2 Review: Final Thoughts

Overall, Lust Stories 2 has narratives that are sometimes hot (Konkona Sen Sharma’s story) and sometimes cold (Amit Sharma’s story). Sharma’s tale will linger in your mind for a long time due to its unsettling climax. Sadly, the other two are just dry, leaving you disappointed.

The first part focused more on pleasures and desires that were purely sexual. But two filmmakers have mixed genres this time. It worked for Sharma, but you also wonder if such a powerful story fits in the world of lust stories!

Lust Stories 2 anthology is now streaming on Netflix.
