Love Of Kill Episode 5 Review- Things Are Getting Better

After the show’s best outing so far, it would have been forgiven if it had slunk back to its mediocre roots, with the increase in quality of that particular episode being considered a fluke that was unlikely of ever being repeated. However, that was not the case, as the latest outing by the seinen show was also just as good as the previous one, if not more so. That makes a total of two consecutive good episodes from the show, which is a very good indication for things to come.
Since there are mostly only good things to say about the episode, let’s get the only negative out of the way first. The character of “Jim”, the mouthless foreigner, is terrible. Not only is his manner of speaking absolutely atrocious to even the most unknowing of ears, but his character design and motivations also leave a lot to be desired. He is a supremely annoying character whenever he’s on-screen and doesn’t even fit the general tone of the show. His existence is a mystery to anyone with a brain.

Other than Jim, the rest of this outing was great. The conclusion to the battle of assassins between Hou and Song concluded in a great action sequence that was entertaining and made sense logically. The show is at its element whenever Song is on screen and doing his hyper-competent murderous actions towards individuals, and this was no different. It was an impressive display of what the show and the studio are able to do within their limited means, and it was great.

The dynamic between Song and Chateau improves in every episode that has them interact. The tiny pickle of them having a shared past and being involved in the car crash that led to Chateau being adopted and Song being found dead (?) doesn’t exactly hurt, either. That was a great, slightly subtle twist that happened in the previous episode that the show has yet to address properly. There’s probably a very good explanation for what happened, and that makes for compelling storytelling, to say the least.

For the first time in the show’s short history, the comedy worked well in Love Of Kill Episode 5. Until now, it has always looked a little out of place and ill at ease here, but as the dynamic between Chateau and Song improves, so does the comedic interactions. New opponents have already been hinted at, and the show has moved forward to its next arc. Things have improved considerably from the shaky start, and the future looks even brighter. For the first time, the show’s next episode is an exciting prospect.
Verdict
Love Of Kill Episode 5 was a great end to the show’s first arc and an indication that the show’s quality has increased considerably from the mediocre start. If you’ve been hesitating to give this a try until now, now is the time.
