Land of Sin Ending Explained

The series starts with Dani getting an ominous phone call from Ivar asking her to come to Bjäre and find Silas. The latter, a young boy whom she had fostered, was going through a lot, including battling addiction with Oliver, Dani’s son, and his disappearance comes as a shock to their small town. When she arrives at Bjäre, everyone is wary of her, and things take a dark turn when they find Silas’s body. Heartbroken, she dives into trying to find out who could’ve killed him, bringing out shocking truths about Silas’s family and the town.

Who killed Silas?

At first, the suspicion falls on Oliver when the police find DNA under Silas’s fingernails. Oliver is arrested, which makes Dani feel broken. Soon, she realises that there’s something amiss, and it has to do with the land that Ivar and Elis are fighting over. Although they tell her that it’s a useless land, she soon realises that the government gives grants for arable land, which is why the family is fighting.

Their next suspect is Jarven, a drug lord in the area whom everyone owes money to. Silas, Oliver and a bunch of other young men in the town get into drugs and work under Jarven, who eventually ends up owning their every move. However, that, too, is quickly removed as a possibility, and we eventually learn that it’s Jon who killed him.

Katty had goaded Jon into taking care of Silas, who had been threatening Katty for getting all of the family land, which Elis got being the older brother, according to the will. As a heated argument ensued between the two cousins, Jon killed Silas at the beach after the latter abused Harald and disposed of his body in the lake.

Does the killer face justice?

In episode 5, realising that Jon is about to get into trouble and that they might lose their land as a result, Katty forces Harald to take the blame instead. When Elis realises what’s happening, he knocks Dani unconscious and runs off with his sons. In the forests nearby, Dani and Malik catch up to the three, along with Kimmen, Silas’s brother, who shoots Elis when he insists that he was the one who killed Silas, taking a bullet for his own son.

Realising that this is an endless cycle that will never end, Dani asks Malik to put the blame on Elis and let the brothers live their lives freely since they cannot be faulted for something that their parents did.

What happens in the end?

In the aftermath, Dani reconciles with Oliver, who is unhappy with his mother getting him arrested. The series ends with Dani having returned to bee farming and Oliver eventually joining him.
