Minerva Academy Ending Explained: In Minerva Academy, a shocking conspiracy challenges the very foundations of an elite military school, where a group of freshers find themselves facing personal challenges while trying to uncover the truth behind a missing friend. The teen drama, with eight episodes, is an enjoyable and thrilling ride that shines a light on institutional failures, family pressures, love and friendship, along with what it means to be loyal to those around you.
Throughout the series, the pressing question comes from Salvo pushing his seniors and teachers to learn more about what happened to his friend Francesco, who was extremely excited to attend the school before him. Now that he has seemingly disappeared without a trace, Salvo keeps digging, and by the seventh episode, viewers will learn exactly what happened to him… and whether he is still alive. What Happened to Francesco in Minerva Academy?
Throughout the runtime, the one resounding question in almost everyone’s minds in the series is Francesco. While we learn early on that it’s a secret that the entire school is trying to keep under wraps, it becomes increasingly evident that there is more to this tale than meets the eye. Diego is clearly a part of the story, but he keeps his mouth tightly shut in fear of his father, whom he desperately wants to make proud. Salvo, however, changes everything from the moment he enters the school, hell-bent on finding out what happened to his friend.
After a lengthy investigation, we finally learn through a shocking video that Francesco had feelings for Diego and the two had acted on it. However, despite their feelings, Diego didn’t want to pursue anything with him and, in fact, wanted to keep all of it hidden in fear of offending his father. Desperate, he brutally abused Francesco and left him traumatised, and Achille had made it seem like Francesco had ended his life in the aftermath.
However, the shocking truth is that Francesco had left everything behind to restart his life quietly. He wasn’t dead, but just wanted to get away from the toxicity and violence in the school. Diego finds him first with Esposito’s help and tell him about Salvo’s desperate search.
Did Salvo Find Out the Truth About Francesco?
Salvo finds out the truth about Francesco in episode 7 and the horrible abuse he faced at the hands of his friends and seniors. Fearing that the school, especially Achille, would keep things hidden because of his son’s involvement, he went to Teresa Bonaiuto with the truth. She eventually, along with Laura, took it up with higher officials, hoping to bring about a change in the school’s system.
However, that doesn’t end up happening. In the end, Salvo finally meets Francesco in the midst of the school ball and tells him the truth about what happened at school. He tells him that it was his decision to leave the school and live a quiet life and that he has accepted his new life and what it entails.
What Happens to the Senior Cadets?
Diego, who himself didn’t know that Francesco was alive, ends up taking the fall for all the events and gets expelled from school. Paula eventually consoles him and tells him that their father is extremely manipulative and tells him about their mother. Realising how he has been manipulated by Achille for years, he takes it upon himself to confront his father and pulls a gun on him, and the two have an emotional and heated standoff. In the aftermath, he shoots a blank at him and walks out, eventually delivering Francesco’s uniform to him at a later date. It’s evident that he doesn’t go back to school, but the series leaves his fate uncertain.
On the other hand, while Max was also a participant in Francesco’s bullying, he doesn’t face the same backlash after he testifies against him to save himself. It’s another tactic by Achille to separate the boys, but the end up being on good terms. Lastly, Rachele continues to study in the program despite discouragement and her health concerns, looking to be in better spirits by the end of the series.
What Is the Meaning of the Minerva Academy Ending?
At the heart of Minerva Academy, we see young people rebelling against unjust practices and rules to follow the path of righteousness. As they slowly discover that the lives that have been planned for them might not be something that they are willing to follow, they question everything and everyone around them, often resulting in untoward situations. In the end, thus, we see all the expectations that have been placed on them thoroughly challenged, and the kids come out with a clearer sense of who they are. The season ultimately asks whether discipline is the be-all and end-all that youngsters need or whether a balanced and open form of communication will keep teenagers more inclined to make good decisions.
