Kowloon Generic Romance Episode 4 Review: The Mystery Thickens

Kowloon Generic Romance Episode 3 Recap

This episode once again opens with a glimpse into Kudo’s past, focusing on his memories with the former Kujirai. We witness the moment she first invites him to her home, a pivotal event where Kudo begins to fall for her and for the nostalgic world she associates with Kowloon City. It’s clear that Kudo’s heart still belongs to his former love, and although his feelings remain strong, they don’t prevent him from feeling envious of the present-day Kujirai.

Later, when the eccentric Doctor Hebinuma visits Kudo’s office, Kudo becomes visibly uneasy. Hebinuma not only seems suspicious but also somehow already knows about Kujirai, which unsettles Kudo even more. The situation worsens when Hebinuma unexpectedly kisses Kujirai in an unsettling manner, infuriating Kudo. The reason behind Hebinuma’s strange behaviour is still unclear, but it’s obvious that he is deeply connected to Kujirai’s hidden past.

Throughout the episode, we see Kudo repeating familiar patterns, especially when he revisits Kujirai’s home and is flooded with memories of his first visit there. Meanwhile, the current Kujirai senses that Kudo’s mind is often preoccupied with someone else, which is her previous self, a realisation that leaves her silently heartbroken.

There’s an undeniable air of mystery hanging over Kowloon City and its residents. Yet the biggest surprise this time is the revelation that Doctor Hebinuma is actually the lover of Gwen, the waiter Kudo has been tirelessly searching for.

Kowloon Generic Romance Episode 4 Review

The episode starts off interestingly as we see how the original Kujirai and Kudo started off their romantic relationship. Kudo was very much in love with her, and he still remembers her quite often. He even offers to let Kujirai A know about her, but for some reason, she refuses to hear about it. She doesn’t want to know what went on between her past self and Kudo and would much rather look at the future.

Somewhere else, Hebinuma and Gwen walk around Kowloon and discuss the peculiarities of this place. From them, we get to know that a clone of Gwen might also exist within Kowloon. But, something is different in the case of Kujirai A, as she even has the same mole that the original Kujirai had. Then, does that mean Kujirai A and Kujirai B are the same person, and she just doesn’t remember being in a relationship with Kudo?

It is from Yaomay that we find out more about the whole clone situation. Apparently, there is a Gene Terra project happening in Kowloon that has something to do with clone research. It is a secretive research, and not many people know about it. This segment was really beautiful as Kujirai started to have doubts about being a fake, but Yaomay motivated her to become her true self.

However, the show kept its mystery going, as the ending was quite shocking. The situation with clones is still not clear, and I would like to have more information about it as quickly as possible. But the ongoing romance is also nice to watch.

Verdict

I liked this episode and the complex relationship between Kujirai and Kudo. But, I must also mention that the mystery element is thickening at a faster rate than it is getting solved. So, there are a lot of questions still unanswered. Hopefully, we will get to know what actually happened with the original Kujirai.
