Koffee With Karan Season 8 Episode 9 Review: Nepotism, Movies, Nepotism

Koffee With Karan Season 8 Episode 9 features Ajay Devgn and Rohit Shetty as the new guests. Karan Johar invites them by praising them for their talent, success, and amazing collaborations. The episode is 45 minutes long, and most discussions are about nepotism and movies.

Koffee With Karan Season 8 Episode 9 Review Contains Spoilers

In Koffee With Karan Season 8 Episode 9, Karan Johar talks about Ajay Devgn and Rohit Shetty’s respective careers. Ajay and Rohit discuss the risks they took at the beginning of their careers and the valuable advice they received from certain individuals. Ajay reveals that he had a very carefree attitude when he started off, as he was just young. He just wanted to do his work and see where life took him.

The discussion then moves on to how their fathers work and eventually to the topic of nepotism. Karan shares how his late father, Yash Johar, worked very hard to achieve success. He doesn’t understand the tag he gets as ‘flagbearer of nepotism’ when his family and he himself have always worked hard.

The Bholaa actor also adds that people don’t realise that generations have worked with all their efforts to reach this stage. The initial struggle is the same for everyone who starts off. He adds, “People don’t see that part of your hard work. They just think, ‘They get everything handed to them.’ We don’t.”

Koffee With Karan Season 8 Episode 9 Still 1

Further, Karan asks Ajay about the frequent paparazzi attention given to his daughter, Nysa Devgn and the online discussions surrounding her. Ajay says that he doesn’t care what they say, as it doesn’t tell the truth. KJo further asks if Nysa will venture into films as an actor, to which Ajay says that right now, she has no plans. But no one knows what will happen in the future. But right now, he knows that his daughter doesn’t want to be in movies.

Rohit Shetty’s son, Ishaan, wants to be in movies. The Singham 3 director says that his son will be going through all the struggles to find his footing in the industry. He has to start it all from scratch. Rohit also talks about the failure of Cirkus. He reveals that Anupam Kher gave him great advice once: “After a point in your life when you’ve worked so much, it’s the event that fails; it’s not you.”

Ajay and Rohit then talk about their strong bond and how they also have certain ups and downs while working on certain movies, but they always sort it out. They talk about Ranveer Singh’s high energy on the sets of Singham 3. Ajay talks about not being an extroverted social person. He loves being with people, but at peace, and hence, he avoids shows and parties often.

Koffee With Karan Season 8 Episode 9 Still 2

Karan Johar also talks about patching up his equation with Ajay Devgn after the Ae Dil Hai Mushkil and Shivaay clash. He reveals how he walked towards Ajay while they were shooting at the Yash Raj Film Studios and how Ajay immediately made it seem all okay. Then the game rounds were just okay. The questions in the buzzer rounds were fun, as they were all about movies. I hope we see more of them in the coming episode.

Koffee With Karan Season 8 Episode 9 Review: Final Thoughts

Overall, Koffee With Karan Season 8 Episode 9 was just okay. It felt more like a serious celebrity interview where everyone was having business talks. The episode seemed like an attempt to clear up the nepotism allegations many in the industry get subjected to too. While I understand the nepotism debate is frustrating, I hope Karan stops paying so much attention to it. It is only going to provoke the other side to make more attacks. Further, he made sure he talked about himself again while the other guest was sharing their stories. Eventually, we will get used to this, too.

The episode is now streaming on Disney+ Hotstar.
