Soundtrack #2, starring Geum Sae-rok and Steve Noh, just came to an end, and with it, we can’t help but fall in love with the romance and the music combined into one. There’s just something so beautiful about watching musical Korean dramas, with their soulful and sweet melodies intertwining with every facet of every character’s life and giving birth to something truly unique. The relationship, of course, keeps things fresh and interesting, but it’s the music that forms the soul of the series.
The following shows will thus fulfil your need to watch relationships grow along with music and fill your heart with happiness and warmth.
5 Musical Korean Dramas Like Soundtrack #2
Do Do Sol Sol La La Sol
In this romantic drama, a cheerful pianist’s life turns upside down when she loses everything and has to move to a small town outside the city. Go Ra-ra’s fateful meeting with Sunwoo Joon, however, is what adds an interesting flavour to her life as he goes above and beyond to help her settle into the small town life, and her relationship with the countryfolk also becomes a big part of her new life and happiness.
The best thing about this drama is probably how well all the characters are written and enacted. All the characters have been given a rollercoaster of arcs that will take you to unpredictable but relatable places. The leads, played by Go Ara and Lee Jae-wook, feel like a part of the story with how well they mesh into the storyline and bring out the beauty of their characters. Plus, their chemistry is blindingly beautiful and will leave you satisfied till the end. The storyline is also engaging and extremely watchable and will keep you at the edge with its intense emotions and beautiful moments.
The series stars Go Ara, Lee Jae-wook and Kim Joo-hun and is available to stream on Netflix.
Do You Like Brahms?
This relatable tale feels like watching a very good book unfold in front of your eyes, with a hint of different emotions peeking out from every crevice of the story. The series is a blend of emotions that will keep you hooked from start to end and never fails to touch your soul throughout its 16-episode runtime. What works in tandem with the engaging storyline is the stellar performances from the leads, who feel like they are the characters whom they portray. Their subtle performance of various emotions is just amazing to watch and will touch your heart before you even know it.
The story follows a woman having a quarter-life crisis who decides to leave her business and follow her passion for music. In the midst, she finds her heart playing its own tune when she meets Park Joon-young and something deeper than anything she ever knew starts to blossom.
The series stars Kim Min-jae, Park Eun-bin, Kim Sung-cheol, Park Ji-hyun, Lee You-jin, and Bae Da-bin and is available to stream on Viki.
The Liar and His Lover
The drama follows a music producer going through the ups and downs of his career when he meets talented singer Yoon So-rim, who changes his life forever. As the two get over the obstacles while living their lives, they find themselves drawn to each other until a huge secret comes out in the open. The question remains after everything, will the two lovers find themselves together?
I think one of the best things about this romantic drama, apart from the moving storyline and the amazing acting, is the soul-touching OST. Every song from this show is something that you will enjoy listening to and will create a space in your heart like no other. Apart from that, the storyline starts a bit slow, but before you know it, you will be hooked on the romance, the struggles and the journey that these characters go through in order to realise their dreams and live the life that they want.
The series stars Lee Hyun-woo and Park Soo-young with Lee Jung-jin, Lee Seo-won and Hong Seo-young and is streaming on Viki.
Soundtrack #1
The first set of episodes in the series is a short watch that is warm and takes you down memory lane, in which you can find yourself relating to the plights of the protagonists. Apart from the relatable struggles of being in the creative field and the challenges that come with it, the storyline is also a mirror of the relationship wherein you fall for your best friend but just find it difficult to express your feelings for fear of losing them forever. Moreover, the chemistry between leads Park Hyung-sik and Han So-hee is intimate and realistic and makes your heart flutter at each stolen glance.
The story follows best friends Han Seon-woo and Lee Eun-soo, who end up sharing a home for a few months, resulting in the bubbling feelings that they have for each other to rise to the top. Their deeper understanding of one another results in them knowing each other in a different light, triggering feelings that they never knew existed before.
The series is streaming on Disney+.
Heartstrings
The mixture of different genres of music in the Kdrama is probably the best part of it. Other than the fact that this is a college romance and is cute as a button, the series representation of gayageum, a traditional Korean instrument, makes it an interesting and sort of educational watch wherein you will get to know something new. On the other hand, the storyline is a convincing and relatable representation of our time in school, wherein competition and puppy love reign supreme. There’s something just so fresh about Jung Yong-hwa and Park Shin-hye, who had previously collaborated on You’re Beautiful, that you can’t look away from their chemistry.
The story follows Lee Gyu-won and Lee Shin, who end up in love with one another while in college. However, competition, love and dreams all clash with one another as the days pass, resulting in them choosing one over the other. The melodrama will give you a taste of it all.
The series is streaming on Viki.
