Koffee With Karan Season 7 Episode 8 Recap: Shahid Kapoor and Kiara Advani Even Bored the Host

Koffee With Karan Season 7 Episode 8 starts off with Karan Johar talking about his films setting unrealistic expectations from a romantic relationship and how the definition of love has changed to quick and complicated now. Moreover, he declares that he will be moving on to the action genre now, instead of romance, before calling upon the guests.

The synopsis of the episode reads, “Kiara Advani and Shahid Kapoor discuss Kabir Singh, some rib-tickling anecdotes, their individual struggles before gaining stardom and Kiara’s marriage.”

-Koffee With Karan Season 7 Episode 8 Recap Contains Spoilers-

Karan Johar introduces his guest Shahid Kapoor as the veteran who had been on every season of the show and Kiara Advani as the talented actress with box office successes. Right away they start talking about the film ‘Kabir Singh‘, where both of the actors were the lead and received immense success.

The South Indian original ‘Arjun Reddy‘ launched Vijay Deverakonda’s career into the limelight and it did the same for Kiara. She first got noticed in the anthology film Lust Stories, where she portrayed a rather bold character who was even rejected by Kriti Sanon because her mother didn’t approve of it.

Kabir Singh may have been a turning point for her but the film garnered both positive and negative connotations around it. Some liked it while many were critical of the kind of relationship that was portrayed in the film. Shahid Kapoor comments on his take on the film that, they didn’t try to show something as wrong or right but something that happens.

Somewhere, this is a safe answer to save yourself from the polarising sides, by being on the fence. What the filmmakers and the actors get it wrong, is that people don’t want them to only show perfect and nice characters, rather they shouldn’t advocate for a character that is clearly not in the right.

Nobody advocates for Mogambo being a good guy with reasons to do all the bad stuff he does, likewise, an anti-hero should be tagged so and not with a rosy filter because what the film portrayed is very much the reality of many and shouldn’t be encouraged more. Even Shahid tried to distance himself from his character’s violent image and proves their irony itself.

Moving on, as we saw in the previous episode as well, Johar is back to hound its guests about their alleged relationships, this time he targets Kiara and got more or less, all the answers that he was looking for. But after already seeing the main highlight in the previous episode, their nudging for some tea, doesn’t interests anymore.

Maybe if they had broadcasted Kiara’s episode before Sidharth Malhotra’s, it could have made some big news but now its just a known fact and nothing surprising or scandalising. They further talked about their respective films like Jersey and Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2, before moving on to Koffee Bingo.

This segement was somewhat engaging with Kiara revealing why she bitchslapped Shahid Kapoor in her head. She said, “It was my third or fourth day of shooting, and I was made to wait for eight hours because there was discussion of what shoes Shahid would wear in the next scene.” While Shahid reveals that he cringes watching his performance in Batti Gul Meter Chalu.

He also mentioneed tidbit about his past girlfriends and even Johar seem to share in on the inside joke but with long list of girlfriends, it is somewhat difficult to point one out. Although, whenever they take a dig, only Kareena Kapoor Khan comes to mind, maybe because that was his most publicised relationship.

Apart from that, the rapid fire round was the most boring segment where even the look on Johar’s face screamed ‘boring’. The voting jury even asked for some controvertial answers but they were busy in image making. Kiara won the round with 57% votes as she didn’t dragged her answers like Shahid did.

Koffee With Karan Season 7 Episode 8: Final Thoughts

Episode 8 has to be one of the boring episodes till now, there was no humour or wit and their conversation was like reading from a pre-written script. The guest were often time busy with their own conversation and the host was ready to move on to the next thing quickly.

The last slam zone was chaos as usual, with Johar not being able to multi-task and the guests calling the same celebrity friends like Varun Dhawan, Ananya Pandey etc. Shahid Kapoor won this round, but the hamper was quiet smaller than the ones given in previous episode.

Koffee With Karan Season 7 is streaming on Disney+ Hotstar.
