Kaiju No 8 Overview
Kaiju No. 8 stands out as a remarkable manga by the skilled Matsumoto Naoya. Taking the role for the anime adaptation are directors Miya Shigeyuki and Kamiya Tomomi, while scriptwriting duties and series composition fall under the capable hands of Ookouchi Ichirou. Gou Fumiyuki, known for his work on titles like Blue Lock, Mieruko-chan, and Araburu Kisetsu no Otome-domo yo, assumes the role of music director. Bringing the visuals to life is Production I.G, renowned for their work on series such as Haikyuu!! and Kuroko no Basket.
In terms of the songs, the opening theme “Abyss” is performed by YUNGBLUD, adding a distinctive energy to the series. Meanwhile, the closing theme “Nobody” comes from OneRepublic, perfectly complementing the anime.
Episode 2 of Kaiju No. 8 can also be called the 2nd episode of Kaijuu 8-gou (怪獣8号).

Kaiju No 8 Episode 2 Review: Protect The Weak
Today’s episode was even better than the first one, as we are finally getting more info and meeting new characters. I will start by saying the opening song was not bad, but the visuals are certainly not something that I like. I would have preferred a traditional anime opening with scenes from the show itself. Other than that, we start right from the part when our protagonist, Kafka, turns into a Kaiju.
This is obviously the worst situation one can ever be in, as Kafka transforms into a monster in a hospital where there are tonnes of witnesses. He gets caught by an old man, who almost dies after seeing Kafka’s appearance, and his smile, which Kafka tries to pull to look innocent.
In this episode, we see how Kafka manages to get himself out of this very messy situation with his trusted junior, Ishikawa, helping him with it. Not only that, but Kafka finds many interesting attributes about himself in his Kaiju form. With this new body, he achieved tremendous strength, with which he rips the entire wall of his hospital room with just a tap. Plus, he achieves sharp senses that can easily detect a Kaiju down to its type.
Kafka tries to flee the whole fiasco before the Defence Force can come and wipe him out, but when he realises that there is another Kaiju nearby, he remembers his original goal to protect innocent people from Kaiju. This desire made him head in a different direction, where he would come face to face with another threat.
Throughout this episode, we see Kafka reinvent himself as a hero when he decides to join the defence force even in his condition where he turns into a kaiju without any warning at any moment. He realises that at the end of the day, he wishes to help people and stand with Mina as an equal. Thus, even with his own safety in line, he tries to protect humans, something that he has dreamt of since his teenage days.
The music of this series is really good, as the BGM that you hear when Kafka gets serious is very cool. Even the introduction of other new characters makes you hyped for what’s to come.

Verdict
I absolutely loved this episode, and I’m waiting for the next one eagerly. In this episode, we finally know the true meaning behind the title of this anime as well. The next episode is going to be great and you should start watching this anime if you have not yet.
