How I Met Your Father Season 2 Episode 9 introduces us to the new dating lives of Jesse and Sophie. We are also hinted at Sophie’s “The One”, along with Jesse’s true feelings. The sitcom creator is Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger, and it serves as a standalone sequel to everyone’s favourite show from the early 2000s- How I Met Your Mother (HIMYM).
We see the return of Hilary Duff as Sophie, Chris Lowell as Jesse, Francia Raisa as Valentina, Suraj Sharma as Sid, Tom Ainsley as Charlie, Tien Tran as Ellen, and Kim Cattrall as the future Sophie. We will also see Ashley Reyes as Hannah, Leighton Meester as Meredith, Josh Peck as Drew, Meaghan Rath as Parker, Michael McDonald as Warren, Jessica St Clair as Megan, Wendie Malick as Daphne, Judy as Judy, Morgan Smith as Alice and Stony Blyden as Jasper. In addition to the old cast, we have Mark Consuelos, Constance Marie, Michael Cimino, and John Corbett joining the cast for the new season.
The ninth episode of the show’s second season is called The Welcome Protocol. It is directed by Pamela Fryman, and the runtime for the episode is 21 minutes.

– How I Met Your Father Season 2 Episode 9 Review Contains Spoilers –
Valentina’s client Daphne, who is a broadway star, throws a party, and Sophie accompanies her best friend to the event. When the two leave, Jesse tells about his new date, Dana, to his friends Sid, Ellen, and Charlie and assigns them certain roles like “hype man”, “bathroom bestie”, “giggle”, and “human fodder”. Dana comes to the bar, and all of them carry out their duties.
Meanwhile, at the party, Sophie meets chef Robert who oversees the food area. At the same time, Valentina looks at a guest dressed up uncanny to Daphne. To save her career from Daphne’s fury, Valentina tries to hide the guest from Daphne’s look. To aid Valentina, Sophie pours sauce on that guest, leading her to cover her costume with a coat. However, another guest also appears in the same dress, and Sophie again carries her sauce trick. Nevertheless, the second guest declines to wear a coat, and seeing this woman, the previous guest removes her coat too.
Unfortunately, Daphne notices both the guests and yells at Valentina. When Valentina witnesses Daphne crying, the latter talks about her bad reputation. To fix it, she asked Valentina to bring both the guests with the same dress to the stage so that Daphne could be portrayed as a humble person.
How did Robert and Sophie get close?
When Sophie spills the sauce on the second guest, Valentina suggests Sophie give her dress to that guest. When Sophie removes and gives (the second guest anyhow declines and proceeds with her sauce-spilt outfit) Robert catches Sophie in her innerwear. He then gives her a chef coat and covers her. Both of them spend time, and Robert impresses Sophie with his dips. Robert then asks Sophie out, and the latter kisses him as confirmation.
Did Jesse and Dana end up together?
No, they don’t. When the friends perform their roles, they start to like Dana very much that they even think of Jesse’s marriage with her. Sadly, Jesse opens up to his friends that he doesn’t want to continue dating her. When he fakes an emergency, Dana realises the truth and leaves the bar.
How I Met Your Father Season 2 Episode 9 Ending
Despite Robert and Sophie’s age difference, Sophie agrees to be with Robert. Robert feared that his being older than Sophie might make her push him away, but surprisingly, she agrees to date him since he is mature and wise. He is very attentive to her and notices every detail about her.
On the other hand, Jesse is clearly in love with Sophie still. He tries to date women only to distract his thoughts about Sophie. As he realises that if he continues to date women without any intention, he will end up hurting his dates. Jesse is still unaware of Robert so we might witness another heartbreak of Jesse.
Final Thoughts
Robert might not be Sophie’s son’s father because, in the previous episodes, we learned that the father was present at Sid’s engagement party. Or maybe he was; we’re unsure. However, if he really were present, he’d have told about that day to Sophie. Hence chances of Robert being “The One” is less. Yet, he can become the reason behind Sophie trusting once again in love, eradicating all her commitment issues.
