García! Episode 4 Review: Garcia Decides To Be on the Right Side of History

García! Episode 4 ventures deep into the backstory of the Spanish spy, and also gives us the full-fledged fight sequence with his nemesis. For the unversed, the series is about a cryogenically frozen superhuman weapon of war, that awakens in the 21st century, amidst a totally changed political landscape. Moreover, the series stars Francisco Ortiz in the lead role.

The cast of the series includes Veki Velilla as Antonia, Daniel Freire as Neffenberg, Francisco Reyes, Emilio Gutiérrez Caba, Silvia Abascal, Lola Herrera, Nico Romero, Helio Pedregal, Mario Pardo, Miki Molina, Marina Gatell and Pepe Ocio. The episode has a running time of nearly an hour.

-García! Episode 4 Review Does Not Contain Spoilers-

The episode starts on an emotional note for the super spy and resumes right from the debris of the previous instalment. Earlier, García!’s love interest Feli was the primary reason for his decision to quit. Now, she has become the main cause for settling the scores against all the bad guys.

On the other hand, Antonia learns the truth about her father and his true history with the fascist party. The hard-hitting facts that she unearths through her investigation, are enough for her to decide who’s really on the evil side. Along with this, she is also aware of her father’s attempt at Garcia’s life.

The episode also features Garcia’s encounter with his arch-nemesis Winters (played by Francisco Reyes), who offers a full-throttle competition to the otherwise invincible spy. The whole sequence is enthralling and jaw-dropping, with some of the best hand-to-hand combats I have seen in a while.

Even though the episode ends on a cliffhanger (like a tradition now), it answers all the necessary questions about the final act. In fact, Garcia’s real awakening clears the main purpose of the superhuman spy, which is to end up on the right side of history this time. Furthermore, the camaraderie between Garcia and Antonia is finely tuned in with this episode, which will definitely become a strong highlight.

I am thoroughly enjoying Francisco Ortiz’s portrayal of Garcia, and the intricacies that he captures brilliantly. It’s not easy to be an emotionless humanoid and display varying degrees of sentiments.

So far, the series is defeating all my expectations and proving to be a highly engaging ride. Maybe the only criticism that I have, for now, is the series’ length. Which are just six episodes in total.
