What do the generals talk about at the beginning of this episode?

The war is taking a toll on everyone, including the generals. They are not thrilled about the war, but they cannot stop it now because they have invested far too many things and lost far too many lives. Thus, to justify that loss, they must win at all costs. We also see how Kurt’s son-in-law actually died in war, and that is why his daughter and wife do not live with him right now. After that, the episode shows how the troops are currently preparing for a massive counterattack.

What was Tanya’s reaction towards this counterattack plan?

Tanya obviously did not like this plan because, in her mind, this was the perfect opportunity for the war to end peacefully. But now she will have to prepare her men and herself for a large-scale counterattack, which she did not see coming.

What was their mission in this episode?

Their main mission was to attack their enemies, while on the other hand, their allies would then come to annihilate their trapped foes. According to Tanya, this should be so precise that the Federation’s leadership should never want to fight a war again. The plan is simple: it is for Tanya’s troops to slip through the gaps in the Federation’s combat areas.

How difficult was the battle in this episode?

It was an extremely difficult one because Tanya and the troops had to reach the enemy stronghold by land, because if they chose air, then they could get attacked. However, this did not lessen their risks, as within the enemy territory, they could get targeted from anywhere. On top of that, the soldiers had to constantly travel even at night without any rest.

What happened when Tanya and her soldiers tried to find the enemy headquarters?

Tanya again wanted to deflect from her job and convince her soldiers that they should search in another direction. However, even when she thought that she could escape a potential war scenario like this, they actually found the headquarters in the direction she suggested. Needless to say, Tanya was not happy, and she launched an attack, quickly destroying the enemy command right away. This thankfully won her yet another war.

Does a proper peace proposal finally go through?

The military came up with a peace agreement and presented it to their politicians. However, the politicians refused to accept it because they do not think it was profitable enough for the empire. It is apparent that if the Empire does not get any reparations for the war, the country will go bankrupt and the imperial family might also become unstable. Thus, the politicians refuse to heed the warnings of the soldiers and willingly decide to sacrifice more soldiers. Weirdly enough, Kurt accepted this without any hesitation. On the other hand, Hans was absolutely against this idea.

What worked and what did not work?

This episode does a great job of showing the vanity of war. It also highlights what can happen when someone drunk on power rules a nation for personal gain instead of thinking about the people. The way the anime reflects real-world issues is truly impressive. On top of that, the political drama and wartime conflicts make it an exciting watch.
