The trailer of the film starts with an alternative take on history, where the extremist Nathuram Godse assassinates Gandhi and attains his wavering objective. However, this time around, the film uses a fictional plot device to move forward with a different storyline. In Santoshi’s take on the events, Gandhi ji survives the assassination attempt and decides to meet with Godse, inside his prison cell.

This change of fate formulates the core part of the film, where the essence of the plot lies in the debate between Gandhi and Godse. A conversation that never happened in the first place, but is enough to generate intrigue in terms of its concept.

The film also dwells on the political events of the era, and the delicate social fabric of the country in its making. Santoshi paints a world as per his vision, and understanding, and tries to portray an ideological battle. Furthermore, there are also references to real-life leaders like Jawaharlal Nehru and BR Ambedkar, along with a glimpse of their conversations.

The official clip ends on an enigmatic note and leaves with an open-ended debate. Thereby, creating an element of suspense, as to what will be the faith of independent India, in Santoshi’s alternative history. Notably, the music of the film is given by AR Rahman, and it is produced by Manila Santoshi.
