Fatal Seduction Reactions: ‘Dark Desire’ Adaptation Creates Resistance, but Wins Over With Storyline

South African series have made a lasting impression on audiences, and the Fatal Seduction reactions are proof of that. This is a crime-drama-mystery TV show directed by Busiswe Ferry Jele, Zuko Nodada, Nthabiseng Mokoena and Johnny Barbuzano, and stars Kgomotso Christopher, Thapelo Mokoena, Prince Grootboom, Nat Ramabulana, Lunathi Mampofu, Ngele Ramulondi and Frances Sholto Douglas, alongside others. The show has a total of 14 episodes, and volume 1 consists of 7 episodes, each with a runtime of 30 minutes.

Like every drama series that starts with some seduction, this one gave us a death and possibly a murder. We start by seeing a rousing female friendship with exactly the kind of drama and demeanour it takes to be a successful party girl. While Nandi and Brenda finish their rounds of partying, they go their separate ways. Nandi with a man, and Brenda ending up dead. While some people believe it was a suicide, there are inklings that there is something deeper than just suicide in this story.

Nandi has been cheating on her husband because she suspects he has been cheating on her too. However, when she comes back and sees her one-night stand, Jacob, there, she tries to reconcile with her feelings and decides to break up with him. Clearly, men like Jacob have a problem hearing the word no, so he starts stalking her family and daughter to keep a close eye on them. As the story unfolds, we realise that these two characters are more connected to each other than previously expected.

Fans are incredibly impressed by the storyline and the drama of this series, but they cannot forget that this was originally an adaptation of Dark Desire. While watching the same story twice did not provide enjoyment to some, others are mad that the adaptation is becoming a reason for people to boycott the series. They explain that the adaptation works well within the context of the show. There is an overwhelmingly positive response to the show, even being heralded as one of the best South African series on Netflix till now.
