Detective Forst Ending Explained: Starring Borys Szyc, Zuzanna Saporznikow, Andrzej Bienias, Kamilla Baar, Maciej Pesta, Aleksandra Grabowska, Szymon Wróblewski and others, the 6-part Polish crime drama series has been directed by Leszek Dawid, and is based on the initial few books of the Forst book series penned by Remigiusz Mróz. Now that its first season has ended on a cliffhanger, the finale has only us with more questions than answers.
Season 1 was fixated on the titular character, Wiktor Forst, a detective who discovers a series of grisly murders that seem to be connected somehow, especially since all the victims are killed in a similar fashion, with all of their dead bodies being left behind with the same coin.
With the possibility of a serial killer being on the loose in the Tatra mountains, the authorities are alarmed and pace forward to catch the bad guy as soon as possible. However, Forst’s maverick ways get him kicked off the case and thereafter he has no choice but to pair up with a nosy journalist, Olga Szrebska, to solve the case at hand that also ends up bringing alive all his past traumas and fears.

Detective Forst Ending Explained
Who Was the Beast of Giewont and How Was He Connected to Wiktor Forst?
Prosecutor Dominika Wadryś Hansen’s (Kamilla Baar) husband aka Gjord Hansen (Maciej Pesta) turned out to be the Beast, and it’s also revealed eventually that he shared a destructive past with Wiktor. Back in the day, when the two men were merely young boys, they’d been brought up in an orphanage that was led by a woman named Halina Sznajderman (Małgorzata Hajewska-Krzysztofik), who was herself conceived as a result of violation and violent abuse. In those days of their childhood, Gjord was known as Iwo Elijah, and he came to share a special bond with Wiktor and both of them self-proclaimed to be each other’s brothers for life.

This orphanage also shared ties with a top secret brothel run by Nazi collaborators (one of them being Halina’s father – Leon Lowotarski) in the mountains, and in the present day, Gjord aka Iwo was murdering each of this establishment’s descendants, as he’d been weaponised by Halina who wanted all those tormenting roots gone. While that in itself is a different part of the story and fuels Iwo’s formation into a monster, his actions were also a result of his own vengeful plan against Wiktor. He left coins at all these murder scenes as a message to Forst because he came to have suffered a great deal at the orphanage because of him. 30 years ago, when Iwo and Wiktor were still friends at this orphanage, they were just going about playing shenanigans as young kids do.

Wiktor decided to steal the orphanage director’s coin necklace and Iwo helped him secure it, and when they were caught, Iwo took the blame for both of them. Not only was he severely punished for the crime, the Forst family, that had initially expressed their desire to adopt Iwo, eventually backed out because the young boy was labelled as common thief

All of this was revealed at Halina Sznajderman aka the former orphanage director’s place when Wiktor and Olga (Zuzanna Saporznikow) visit her to accuse her of the murders. However, it turns out, Iwo had also been present at the scene and when Halina revealed him, Iwo confronted Wiktor about the past, while also shooting down everyone in the room except Forst and Olga.
He chose to torture them a bit differently as he set the whole place on fire, drugged and tied Wiktor on a chair, whereas Olga was stripped and tied along with the other dead people in the room. When Wiktor finally came to his senses, he broke out and saved Olga and somehow escaped the burning building safely.
Was Agata Found and Saved?

Yes, it was Wiktor who found Agata (Aleksandra Grabowska), because again, the place where Iwo had been keeping her was one that Wiktor and he shared memories of in the past (possibly the same orphanage where Iwo was ultimately deserted, while the Forsts adopted Wiktor and left with him), and not good or pleasant memories, if I may add. On walking in, Wiktor discovers Agata lying on a bed, until he soon realises that he was too late as she’s already dead.
In the meantime, Iwo also makes his way out and the two engage in a visibly violent fight, which ends with both of them falling through the window. Iwo hits the pavement, while Wiktor falls on what appears to be a platform way above, which results in him not getting as badly injured as Iwo.

Did Wiktor and the Beast Die?
Despite their ghastly fight and ultimate fall from the building, they both survived. Iwo had evidently incurred more severe injuries, but we late find him opening his eyes after some time, thus revealing his life status. Wiktor on the other hand instantly races to his secure spot as before to find Olga and Nina, but on reaching there, he again finds a bloody coin, with Nina lying dead at the premise and Olga missing.

In the final scene, Olga is seen driving a car with a smile on her face, and in the back seat lay Iwo, heavily injured and bleeding as before, but seemingly alive. Does this mean that Olga and Iwo had been in cahoots with each other since the beginning, and all of it was a mere ploy to get the better of Wiktor? Hopefully, a second season will drop in the future and give us the answer to this question.
