Muichiro has escaped the water veil, but not his own past in Demon Slayer Season 3 Episode 8. Let’s see how things go for him in this review!
Demon Slayer Season 3 Episode 8 Overview

One of the most popular anime of our time, Demon Slayer, is back on our screens with the Swordsmith Village Arc. The newest series follows the 11-episode Season 2 of the show, which you can read all about here. The arc follows Tanjiro as he makes a trip to the swordsmith village to discover why the sword creator won’t remake his sword and meets something mysterious while there. Demon Slayer Kimetsu No Yaiba Season 3 Episode 8 Review- The Mu in Muichiro

The realisation that made Tokito’s character ‘click’ for me was that he is just a kid, probably even somewhat younger than Tanjiro. He may be a Hashira and extremely strong, but he gained those powers not through experience but sheer talent and hard work. If he’s been doing this all his life, it makes sense that he is socially underdeveloped and doesn’t really understand a few important factors of how being a normal human works. Muichiro was a personality who needed a lot of growing up when he was young, and it appears that he didn’t exactly get the time to do that.

This was the Muichiro episode if it wasn’t abundantly clear in the first paragraph or the title of the episode. Demon Slayer has a lot of these, where it takes out whole episodes just to explain what a character is all about, show their backgrounds, and tells us what made them choose the path that they are on. The ones about demons aren’t usually very good, but the ones about hashiras are a different story altogether. Hashiras are among the show’s most interesting concepts, and so far, it has been a blast to see what each one has been about.

Muichiro’s past was tragic, much like a few others that we have seen in this very season. However, life was cruel to Muichiro because of his strength, not despite it. Where did he get the strength is anybody’s guess, but what he chose to do with it made him the kind of person he is. Interestingly, this flashback didn’t tell us much about Muichiro and his ascension into being a Hashira and left a lot for interpretation. The next episode is also a Muichiro episode so some of this could be explained there, which is necessary because he feels a little incomplete right now.

What’s not incomplete is how powerful he is being shown to be. He is an absolute monster, and watching him fight the Demon was the highlight of this episode. Sure, the sad past and the dead family members made this an important episode either way, but Demon Slayer Season 3 Episode 8 would have felt like something big was missing if we hadn’t got the chance to see Muichiro’s true skills and where all this tragedy led him. This episode also had some great parallels and references to Tanjiro, which explains Muichiro’s fascination with him.

Overall, Demon Slayer Swordsmith Village Episode 8 was a fun watch but felt incomplete in the way it chose to tell what happened in Tokito’s past. We still don’t know much about it, like what happened with his memory loss and what resulted from that bloody encounter, and a few more questions I won’t ask here because of the spoiler warning. The action was, as always, very good, and the animation doubly so. The CGI used in water base scenes is so believable, I can’t believe it’s not just actual footage they somehow converted into anime form.
Verdict
Demon Slayer Season 3 Episode 8 felt like a small part of a bigger picture that is yet to be unveiled. That made for a fun, if slightly incomplete-feeling episode.
