Death’s Game Ending Explained: The South Korean web series Death’s Game (이재 곧 죽습니다) premiered on December 15, 2023 on Prime Video. Adapted from a 2019 Naver webtoon of the same name written by Lee Won-sik and illustrated by Ggulchan, the series features Seo In-guk and Park So-dam in lead roles. Directed and written by Ha Byung-hoon, the storyline revolves around an individual embarking on a new life entangled with frustration and death.

The series is set to consist of 8 episodes, and the first four episodes of the series have been released on the platform. Each episode has a runtime of approximately 50-60 minutes. Although it is originally shot in Korean, the series is available with English subtitles.

Death’s Game Ending Explained

As the show starts, we are shown that Choi Yi-jae leads an extremely miserable life, grappling with incessant setbacks that life relentlessly hurls his way. Despite the ceaseless adversities, he staunchly resists surrender, tirelessly labouring in search of a fortuitous break that might propel him towards a more auspicious trajectory, promising respite from his ongoing tribulations. Alas, each endeavour appears to culminate in a figurative impasse, leaving him ensnared in an inescapable quagmire of despair.

Faced with the seeming futility of his efforts, he reaches a poignant juncture where he decides to take his own life to free himself from life’s painful miseries. However, the universe had other plans for him as Death itself appears in front of him to punish him for making the drastic move. He was condemned to a brutal punishment of leading 12 more lives, where he will meet with death in the most atrocious ways.

How many lives did Yi-jae reincarnate to?

Yi-jae has undergone seven reincarnations thus far. Initially, he assumed the identity of Park Jin-Tae (played by Choi Si-won), the CEO of Taekang Group, meeting his demise in a tragic plane crash. Subsequently, he reincarnated as Song Jae-Seob (played by Sung Hoon), an extreme sports enthusiast who met his end on national television while attempting a daring challenge. In his third reincarnation, Yi-jae took on the persona of Kwon Hyeok-Su (played by Kim Kang-Hoon), a high school student whose life was cut short by the hand of a classmate. Next, he was born as Lee Ju-hun (played by Jang Seung-Jo), a criminal from a syndicate who was killed by his lover.

Following this, he reincarnated as Jo Tae-Sang (played by Lee Jae-Wook), a 21-year-old man embroiled in a legal predicament that ultimately led to his untimely demise. After that, he was born as a baby who was abused by his parents and killed when he was an infant. In his most recent reincarnation, the seventh in the series, Yi-jae was born as Jang Gun-Woo (played by Lee Do-Hyun), an accomplished fashion model.

Who killed Yi-jae as Jang Gun-woo and Ji-su?

Yi-jae as Gun-woo, encountered Ji-su once more, his beloved from his initial life. As the days unfolded, they found themselves drawing closer to one another. Abruptly, Yi-jae reached a point where he could no longer contain his secret and revealed his true identity to her, confessing that he is Yi-jae. However, in the very aftermath of this revelation, a speeding car careened toward them, resulting in a catastrophic collision. Both Yi-jae and Ji-su were tragically crushed beneath the sports car, with the driver being none other than Park Tae-Woo, the scion of the Taekang group.

Did Yi-jae Kill Death?

After Yi-jae is dead, he returns back to the black room where Death exists and also the door to Hell. However, this time, instead of succumbing to his fears and sadness, he takes the gun in his hands and points it towards Death. The screen turns black and a loud noise of the gunshot is heard.

Previously Death mentioned that it is the only entity which cannot die. So, it might not be possible for Yi-jae to kill Death yet. However, it is still unclear if the bullet will have any side effects of being used on Death.
