Dandadan Season 2 Episode 9 Recap

The episode opens with an intense clash between Okarun and the Evil Eye, throwing viewers straight into a brutal hand-to-hand battle. At first, the two are evenly matched, but Okarun soon begins to gain the upper hand. His training pays off as his growth as a fighter becomes clear. He unleashes relentless punches and even delivers a kick strong enough to draw blood from the Evil Eye’s nose.
Still, Okarun knows he can’t keep fighting at full strength forever. Instead, he devises a clever strategy. Rather than treating the Evil Eye as a terrifying enemy, he approaches the Evil Eye as the lonely child he truly is. Okarun had realized earlier that the Evil Eye’s violence stems from his desire for companionship, mistaking killing for play. With this insight, Okarun offers him something new, which is his friendship. He tells the Evil Eye he won’t fight him out of weakness, but promises to spar with him once a week, on the condition that he stops hurting others.

To everyone’s surprise, the Evil Eye accepts, becoming far more manageable than before. With that conflict resolved, the second half shifts focus to Maomao and her grandmother, who are now left homeless after their house’s destruction. Fortunately, the bonds they’ve formed with others prove invaluable, as friends step in to support them through this difficult time.
Dandadan Season 2 Episode 10 Review

Today’s episode introduced a new character who is definitely entertaining, and I’m sure he’s going to be very important as well. This is another nerdish character, Kinta, who studies in the same class as Okarun and is a loner like our hero. Kinta barely has any friends, and he can be seen mostly engrossed in his sci-fi magazines within the class, just like Okarun. However, there is one stark difference between the two. Okarun has become pretty popular with the ladies, whereas Kinta is not that lucky.
This kind of setup is pretty bizarre for Kinta, who announces that Okarun is his enemy. Even though Okarun and Momo can freely talk about balls, when Kinta tries to dirty talk, he gets shut down. Well, they were definitely not talking about balls in that way, and Kinta is too dense to figure that out. This segment was pretty hilarious because we see that the moment Momo and Okarun kissed in episode 5, Kinta was also present there. He saw all of it happen and was shocked by this kind of display. His addition to the scene was pretty intelligently done.

But it was the second half of the story where things picked up. Momo and Okarun have finally found Okarun’s balls, which are now floating around in a building. When they go to retrieve that, Kinta follows them and witnesses whatever they are doing there. However, recovering the ball is not easy, as there is a mysterious presence around it that is guarding it and also mercilessly beating anyone who tries to approach it.
Verdict

Today’s episode was very interesting because, towards the end of it, we see the arrival of a new threat. It will be fascinating to see whether Okarun finally manages to get his family jewels or he is left with one again. I’m also hopeful for the development of Kinta’s character.
