Classroom Of The Elite Season 2 Episode 5 Review- Taking This Lying Down

Kushida is a traitor to the cause, that much we know. The new information that the latest episode presented to us was that Horikita is also an absolute idiot and in no way fit to lead this class of misfits into the most prestigious class in the most prestigious school in the world. She makes a million mistakes in a single episode and is aided and abetted, even cajoled into making them by Ayanokoji, who has a grand plan in mind, which hasn’t done anything in quite a while. Simply put, I don’t have much confidence in these guys making it to Class 1-A anymore.

Things aren’t going the way they wanted, or Ayanokoji at least wants us to think that way. It was surprising enough for us to be halfway done with the sports festival this early, but the outcome so far has been even more demotivating. A lot of this has been because of how the show chose to present the school festival (we’ll talk about that, hold on), but seeing the “protagonist class” being put into this position because of two dumb people who fancy themselves leaders isn’t in any way “fun”. Combine that with an unimpressive supporting cast, and you get a painful time ahead of you.

The sports festival would have been a huge deal if this was a better show than it is. It can be incredibly exciting to see someone you root for competing at the highest level and maybe even win. Shows like My Hero Academia have made their entire existence out of a phenomenal sports arc in recent years. Classroom Of The Elite Season 2 Episode 5 couldn’t be any further from that, as we don’t even get to see any sports in this show. There are barely a few frames featuring the games, after which the characters discuss the result. This had the chance to be the only good thing about the season, but alas.

Not just that, but the Kushida-Horikita plot line in the background is exhausting and isn’t interesting in the slightest. Both are extraordinarily inconsistent characters who change alignments and personalities over seemingly nothing and share a past I am not interested in discovering. We already know why they probably didn’t get along, as we know the dark sides of the pair. It is natural that they don’t trust each other, which makes what happened in this episode even more confounding. Who thought that making Class 1-D this bad was a good idea?

It’s like the show has stopped even trying to be even a little coherent when it comes to its plot. Trying to juggle so many characters would be hard for any show, even if it was competently adapted, which this isn’t. The breakneck pace, which doesn’t give anything time to breathe, is sickening and has decreased the enjoyability of the show, and that doesn’t look to be changing anytime soon. I am sorry if you are among the thousands that still enjoy this show quite a bit, but I don’t.
Verdict
Classroom Of The Elite Season 2 Episode 5 was another twist to the knife in the chest of those who wanted the show to be more coherent and entertaining than it was.
