Chief Detective 1958 (수사반장 1958) has come to an end and brought to us a package of comedy, action, thrill, and more! Directed by Kim Sung-hoon, the drama stars Lee Je-hoon, Lee Dong-hwi, Choi Woo-sung, Yoon Hyun-soo, Seon Eun-soo, and Choi Deok-moon, alongside other cast members.
The show brings the events in the life of Detective Park Young-han, who teams up with his colleagues at a new Police Station to fight corruption. The drama is a prequel to the legendary Korean drama Chief Inspector which entertained the audience for 18 years.
Chief Detective 1958 Ending Explained
The finale brings an end to the case of the Tennis Boys Club Murder as Young-han and his team get their hands on the evidence that can send Hee-sung to prison. However, this case also brings an end to Do-seok’s time as the Senior Superintendent as Young-han catches him during the chaos he has created.
While Do-seok tries to make use of Young-han’s past trauma to run away, this Young-han is not someone he can dominate and he proves it. With the help of Ho-jeong, Young-han fights back and finally arrests the man. Hee-sung, Do-seok and Detective Kang are soon sent to prison where the former two are given the strictest punishments for the crimes.

Hee-sung is to spend life in prison while Do-seok is to be executed in the darkness of the prison walls. News of this is soon made public and everyone at Jeongnam Police Station cheers as justice has been served. However, Young-han is not satisfied because there are still many who got away, with one of them being Hee-sung’s father- Jung Byung-pil.
Later, he brings gifts to Hye-ju who understands that something is bothering Young-han. He tells her how he failed to make the world better as he wasn’t cable enough to bring down Byung-pil. Hye-ju reminds him of all the people he saved since coming to Jeongnam and tells him that he has made this world better for their child.
Young-han feels better with her words and goes back to work with enthusiasm. However, there are no more pending cases and most of the cases have gone to Unit 1 due to their team’s way of working with criminals. Right then, two ex-convicts arrive after having finished their term and are ready to turn over their lives to something better.
Young-han and his team are happy for them and welcome them with great enthusiasm, even helping them begin their better future. Later, Young-han sees the bulletin board in the station and finds out that Chief Yu has become the new Senior Superintendent, which becomes a reason for everyone to celebrate.
Having gotten the freedom to deal with crimes more freely hereon, everyone is ready to take on the challenges ahead. However, they now need a new chief and Yu Dae-cheon has a name to be his successor. Everyone turns to Young-han and Yu Dae-cheon passes on the Chief of Unit 1 position to him, calling him Chief Park.

Everyone cheers once again and prepares to head out to celebrate this occasion until Nan-sil arrives and informs them of another crime that needs their attention. With this, Chief Park and his team change their destination and head out to bring justice to another victim.
Back in the present, Young-han heads out to meet two old friends who are none other than the ex-convicts he once helped start a new life. The respect they hold for Young-han still shines as they greet and thank him for everything he has done for them. Now, the old men sit together for a meal as they reminisce about their golden days while missing the team at Jongnam Station that can never be forgotten.
After this meal, Young-han heads out to meet his Jongnam Station family who now lay quietly in their graves. He brings flowers for his team and greets them individually, telling them how much he misses them these days. He tells them about their children who visit him often, but he cannot stop thinking about them these days and wishes to stay here in their company.
He then falls asleep in this silence and wakes up at dusk. Young-han realises the time and gets up to go back home. He salutes his Jongnam Police Station Unit 1 team one last time and turns to head back home.
