Money Heist
In this series, which is also popularly known as La Casa de Papel, eight thieves take hostages and lock themselves in the Royal Mint of Spain as a criminal mastermind manipulates the police to carry out his plan. There are 5 parts of the series that have been released and broke many records along the way as well.
The series was remade in the Korean language, titled Money Heist: Korea – Joint Economic Area which was adapted according to South Korea’s culture and history. Both the shows are fairly popular and the most watched series on the streaming platform. Watch it here.
Tower Heist
Tower Heist is a 2011 heist comedy film starring Ben Stiller, Eddie Murphy, Casey Affleck, Alan Alda, Matthew Broderick, Judd Hirsch, Téa Leoni, Michael Peña, and Gabourey Sidibe. The plot follows employees of an exclusive apartment building who lose their pensions in the Ponzi scheme of a Wall Street businessman.
They enlist the aid of a criminal, a bankrupt businessman, and an immigrant maid to break into his apartment and steal back their money while avoiding the FBI agents in charge of his case. Army of Thieves
In this prequel to Zack Snyder’s Army of the Dead, small-town bank teller Dieter gets drawn into the adventure of a lifetime when a mysterious woman recruits him to join a crew of Interpol’s most wanted criminals, attempting to heist a sequence of legendary, impossible-to-crack safes across Europe.
In this film, Matthias Schweighöfer, reprises his role as Ludwig Dieter, alongside a supporting cast that includes Nathalie Emmanuel, Ruby O. Fee, Stuart Martin, Guz Khan and Jonathan Cohen. This film follows the same genre of comedy heist films as the film mentioned above. You can watch it here.
The Great Heist
It is a Colombian mini-series inspired by the true events, (El robo del siglo) that follows the assault on the Bank of the Republic, also known as ‘The robbery of the century’ perpetrated in 1994. A band of thieves stole US $33million and put the whole country upside down. It stars Marcela Benjumea, Paula Castaño, Christian Tappan, Waldo Urrego and Andres Parra.
The show is a dramatic interpretation and is similar to the Bank Robbers documentary, as they also drill a hole in the vault. Although, the robbery occurred before the Bank Rio incident, and can be said an inspiration taken by Fernando. You can watch it here.
The Great Robbery of Brazil’s Central Bank
In August 2005, a burglary took place in the Central Bank, located in Fortaleza, Ceará, taking out approximately 165 million reais from the bank’s safe, or around 3 tons and a half of used and untraceable 50-real bills. A spectacular crime that was performed with the help of an underground tunnel of almost 80 meters in length, at first leaving no witnesses and no evidence.
One of the most spectacular stories in Brazilian police history begins here. A plot that puts face to face one smart group of thieves and a team of federal agents, equally intelligent and patient, who during a period of 5 years chased each other in a cat-and-mouse game.
The documentary series 3 Tons, The Central Bank Burglary retells the story of the crime, the investigation and the tragic consequences of a once seemingly perfect crime worth millions, which, nonetheless, after some time, revealed itself to be a curse, leaving a trail of extortion, kidnappings and murders in its wake.
