Bajao Episode 4 Review (Plot Summary and Discussion)

The fourth episode of the show starts off with Ved (Tanuj Virwanii), Dhaari (Sahil Khattar) and Cookie (Sahil Vaid) retracing their steps to find out where they lost Babbar (Raftaar) and learn that they spent a massive amount at a petrol pump. On reaching the spot, they take a look at the CCTV footage and realise the chaos that they got into. A flashback scene also showcases how Dharam Singh (Rajesh Sharma) offers them 2 crores to shoot Babbar’s comeback music video with the condition that it should rake up 100 million views.

The episode then follows Babbar’s attempts at recording a track for the comeback, but he fails to do so under pressure, and his anxiety caused due to the response received for his last album. To lift up his spirits and show him show he still has the talent to make it big again, the trio take him out for a partying night. In the meantime, Ved also tells his girlfriend Sonal (Mahira Sharma) how he is working on Babbar’s comeback, assuring her that he will soon make it big as a director. On hearing the news of Babbar’s comeback, OG (Adinath Kothare) begins to get insecure. The episode then showcases Babbar’s night out with Ved, Dhaari, and Cookie ends up in a bar brawl and the club getting burnt down.

Bajao stars Raftaar as rapper Babbar.

The series continues the pattern of Hangover-style storytelling as we see the three leads retracing their journey from a drunken night to find out what happened to their friend. The episode uses Raftaar’s new track Oh Shit which has been released for the series on multiple occasions in this episode and fans of the rapper are sure to get hooked on it. The episode seems authentic in the moments where the rapper discusses his state of mind. The moments where Rafataar shows how difficult it is for an artist to break away from criticism and fan pressure work well. The humour in the writing falls flat at several moments.

Bajao Episode 5 Review (Plot Summary and Discussion)

This episode reveals the answer to why Ved, Dhaari and Cookie found themselves getting up at the banks of the Yamuna River in Delhi with a massive hangover. After the club brawl and their petrol pump adventure. However, before that is revealed, it turns out they had another stop in between, and that was at a sexual health clinic. In the present day, while following all the leads from their drunken night, the Ved, Dhaari and Cookie visit the same clinic to ask questions about what happened.

It is also here that we learn that while stopping by the Yamuna River bridge to throw a horseshoe and a packet that was given to Babbar by the doctor, he gets kidnapped. As for Ved, Dhaari and Cookie, the three, in their drunken state, get thrown down the bridge into the river after the kidnapper’s car pushes them. The whereabouts of Babbar are still unknown. In the meantime, Sonal (Mahira Sharma), who is set to get married to someone else, has her runaway bride moment as she takes off to be with Ved. The episode finally reveals where Babbar is, and he is shown to be on a cliff having a talk with the kidnappers about his last wishes.

By this point in the series, the entire point of stretching this story seems pointless. It’s an episode that wastes a whole lot of time in a sequence called “Drunk Charades.” The main plot of the series itself isn’t strong enough to have enough content for an episodic run, and by the time we reach the fifth one, there’s little that is keeping us engaged to this tale. The fact that Dhaari, Ved and Cookie help Babbar find motivation to work again is great, but it’s not portrayed in an interesting manner, and the constant cutaways between the past and the present also don’t work.

Bajao Episode 6 Review (Plot Summary and Discussion)

In this episode, we see Babbar surrendering himself to the kidnappers who are ready to shoot him, but in the last moment, they change their minds and set him free after learning about his struggle with himself. In the meantime, the 48-hour window given by Dharam Singh to Ved, Cookie and Dhaari to find Babbar is up, and hence his men capture the trio and begin to hit them to learn what has really transpired.

Elsewhere, we see OG cheating on his girlfriend Tanvi (Monalisa), who, after catching him red-handed, leaves him. The trio, on the other hand, come up with a plan to kidnap OG and hand him over to Dharam Singh in order to find out what happened to Babbar, although the plan backfires when they accidentally capture someone else. In the meantime, Babbar gets kidnapped again and is left tied up in a dark room at the end of the episode. The news of Babbar being missing is also covered by the media.

The sixth episode yet again wastes a lot of time on unimportant elements such as the whole accidental kidnapping sequence. The whole media coverage bit about Babbar’s missing status is also unnecessarily stretched. Each episode could have ended at least 20 minutes earlier if the script wasn’t so scattered.

The only thing that might keep you interested in the story so far is why and who kidnapped Babbar again, but that’s not nearly enough to keep you looking forward to the last two episodes of the show. While the show continues to disappoint, the level of negligence here is such that at the end of episode six, even the credits slide featuring the actors’ names is wrong.

Bajao Review Episodes 4, 5 and 6 Final Thoughts

The comedy series continues to disappoint on several fronts. With average performances and a poor script, the fact that the show is stretched to eight episodes seems unnecessary. While fans of Raftaar get to see the rapper in a new light, it is nearly not enough to make you watch an entire series that has nothing new to offer.

Over the six episodes so far, the show could have wrapped up with a decent storyline about a fallen artist’s struggles and comeback, but instead, Bajao tries to be funny, adds all sub-plots that don’t help add any layers to the story and makes it a show that packs too much of everything.

The first six episodes of Bajao are streaming on JioCinema.
