Anna Nicole Smith You Don’t Know Me: Everything to Know About the Upcoming Netflix Documentary

Netflix is back with another documentary, and this time it will explore a model’s life in the film Anna Nicole Smith You Don’t Know Me. The film is directed by Ursula Macfarlane and will feature the model Anna Nicole Smith in archival footage as she passed away back in 2007. This is a posthumous look at her life and the climb she made as a model back in the 80s and 90s.

Who is Anna Nicole Smith You Don’t Know Me Based On?

The documentary is based on the model Anna Nicole Smith, born Vicky Lynn Hogan. She was initially picked up to be a Playboy model back in 1992 and even became Playmate of the Year the next year. However, she also found popularity beyond this magazine with clothing lines like Guess, H&M and Heatherette. She was also given the opportunity to feature on the covers of Marie Claire and GQ. Apart from these glowing professional accolades, she was generally the centre of conversation because of the long-drawn lawsuits.

Anna Nicole Smith You Don’t Know Me Synopsis

In this documentary, we are given a closer look at her life through multiple perspectives. While the model mostly features in the frame, there are testimonies from people who have shared what she was like and how she was treated at the time by both the people around her and the media who decided to drag her through the mud after the death of her second husband, J. Howard Marshall. Moreover, we also get to see the mindset she grew up in, the choices she made and the things that make her the icon she still is.

Initially, the trailer makes it seem like Smith is a naive little girl who just came up from Houston to make it in the city and who believes that this can happen to everyone. However, as the video progresses, we see how she specifically constructed this narrative in order to always be the aloof and ditzy girl that shouldn’t be taken too seriously. But we see that she was smart enough to make choices that would further her career.

Like all women in the public eye, she was scrutinised for her choices in husbands, for the kind of work she does and for just existing in the public sphere. People around her were keen to note that she knew how to attract male attention but never focussed on why she felt like she had to do that, why that was the only way to make it big in society. This documentary takes on that journey. On finding out who the real Anna Nicole Smith is and why it is important to know her whole story.
