Andor Episode 9: Nobody’s Listening

The last episode of Andor left us all with our hearts beating fast and in anticipation of what will happen next. We left off at Bix getting captured by Dedra who was determined to torture her. Without losing a beat, Andor Episode 9 starts off exactly at the point of anticipation.

We have Dedra trying to torture information out of Bix using the cruellest methods. Dedra is not only looking for information on Cassian but also on Axis- which is basically the Empire’s term for referring to the Rebellion Leader, Luthen. Dedra tries to find all the links of Cassian, from Ferrix to Aldhani and, is finally successful by using the archaic yet effective and horrifying sonic torture method. The history surrounding the discovery and development of the method is worse than the technique itself.

Things are different in Narkina 5 with Cassian finding some variation in his mundane days by interacting with the prisoners and formulating not only enemies of the Empire but, also an escape plan. The plan, also, of course, includes Ulaf, who is withering away in the strain of physical and mental weakness. However, the presence of Kino makes it difficult for the plan to come into action.

However, the most interesting reveal in Andor Episode 9 was the relationship between fan favourites Mon Mothma and Vel. As we already know, Mon is finding it hard to secure funding for the Rebels and, amidst all this, we have her cousin visiting, who turns out to be Vel!

Andor Episode 9 Ending

Andor Episode 9 held us witness to Cassian’s escape plan. We saw his group building a component as Ulaf grows weaker by the day. At the very end of the episode, we encounter a heartbreaking scene. We see Ulaf collapsing by the end and getting euthanized in the darkness of the tunnels.

This gives a chance to Andy Serkis’ Kino to have a character development that pushes him closer to the rebellion. At Ulaf’s death bed we see Kino expressing his emotions and pleading with the doctor to save Ulaf but, it is of no use. This gives Kino the edge to join the rebellion which is what we might witness in the upcoming episodes.

Andor Episode 9: Final Thoughts

Andor Episode 9 kept pushing us closer to the similarities between the show and the political era we live in. From the sonic torture system to the senators’ greed to do what is best for them and not for their population, the show is getting grimmer and more real with time. Watching actors like Diego Luna, Andy Serkis and more all together in an ensemble cast is a treat in itself as the show proves to beat all the other Star Wars series and shine brighter with every passing episode.
