Andor Episode 5: The Axe Forgets

The writer-director duo, Dan Gilroy and Susanna White, for Andor’s last episode Aldhani gear up again to offer us another interesting episode. As seen in the last episode, the group of rebels with whom Cassian meets up at Aldhani is meticulously planning to attack the Empire’s troops. However, Cassian’s last-minute entry in the previous episode has surely ruffled some feathers which come to light in this particular episode.

Cassian finds out how everyone has been through his stuff and, later gets questioned by Skeen. It is nervous interrogation that Cassian overcomes without revealing much and thereafter shares a segment with Nemik, who makes him feel welcomed in the mission if not the group already. With all the interpersonal conflicts aside, with the day of the execution coming closer it becomes clear to Cassian how weak the plan and the rebellion, in general, are. The lack of direction, coordination and a mind to unite the group is missing, although their passion and determination to go against the Empire thrives.

As for our other characters, they move a little in the shadows in this episode as we spend the most time with Cassian. Karn is off his duty charts and is cribbing, crying and waning for revenge from Cassian. Mon Mothma, as badass as she is, has her own set of struggles dealing with a rigid, uptight family who clearly does not see eye to eye with her, making her feel like an outcast. Meero continues to hunt for her big chance at cracking herself a honeycomb in her career but, nothing comes easy.

Andor Episode 5 Ending

At the end of Andor Episode 5, the group gets to know that Cassian is a part of the heist because of money. However, the process does not change much, or more like, Vel does not let it as they continue on with their robbery plan. On the other end, we have Luthen eagerly waiting for some update but, there isn’t any luck of receiving any form of communication. He is clearly worried about how things might turn out to be for Vel and her gang, now that they have Andor.

But, he is reprimanded by his assistant to not fret and be nervous because there is no way of knowing the outcome of the heist until it happens. Luthen’s ending statement in the episode is the ultimate highlight as he believes that this heist will be the start of something, the bigger rebellion that will one day take down the Empire.

Andor Episode 5: Final Thoughts

When compared with the previous episodes of Andor, Andor Episode 5 does not crack the same tune as its predecessor. It is more focused on Cassian and gives us a more detailed look at the rebellion members who we will be meeting more in the upcoming episodes. It is obvious from this and the previous episode that Alex Lawther’s Nemik is surely a character everyone is loving on screen and would like to see more of him. The recent episode focused less on the Empire and its strategies and more on Andor and his companions but, could not really flesh out the latter well.
