Alpha Males, aka Machos Alfa, is a Spanish comedy directed by the duo Alberto Cabellero and Laura Cabellero. The directors, who are loved for their film La Que Se Avecina, gave out a whole series, and fans are happy! Will the series be worth the hype, though?
Speaking of the plot, Alpha Males is about four best friends who are struggling in the modern era where patriarchy is crushing. The story revolves around how these four handle the women around them and the society that picks on men for their problems. This show promises to show the world about fourth-wave feminism. However, whether it’s going to be negative or positive, you can only know when you watch.
The official Netflix description of the series is
A LOST JOB, AN OPEN RELATIONSHIP, A SEXLESS MARRIAGE, A DIVORCE. FOUR MIDDLE-AGED FRIENDS IN MADRID TRY TO NAVIGATE THE CHANGING WORLD OF MASCULINITY.
The main cast of the series includes Fernando Gil, María Hervas, Raúl Tejón, Nathalie Seseña, Kira Miró, Gorka Otxoa, Paula Gallego, Mar Saura, Fele Martínez, Raquel Guerrero and Virginia Rodríguez. The series is produced by Contubernio Films and is officially distributed by Netflix.
-Alpha Males Review Contains No Spoilers Ahead-
The series begins with the four men, Raul, Luis, Pedro, and Santi, sitting in a seminar about toxic masculinity. Among the four, three of them say out loud that they’re sexist, while one of the friends leaves. Surprisingly, he does return to that seminar in another episode, which you’ll see.
When the series started, it was evident that these four men are definitely sexists, as they claim, and truth be told, they act accordingly. Surrounded by powerful and sensible women, all four of these men, who are best friends, find it extremely hard to follow the lead of women. Pedro, who is replaced by a female colleague, ends up thinking his content creator girlfriend is stupid for influencing her followers, but in reality, she tries her best to keep the finances running.

Luis fails to notice how he hasn’t been treating his wife with some sex action but has been occupied with himself. Raul, who wishes to propose marriage to his girlfriend Luz, finds it terrifying when she requests an open relationship. Unsurprisingly, Raul, who does have a sex buddy (married side chick, to be precise), doesn’t want Luz to be with other men while he happily enjoys time with his sex buddy, Mmmh.
Finally, our wonderful Santi, a divorcee, tries his best to forget his ex-wife by going on Tinder dates; however, he dumps every woman he tries his shot at. As a father, Santi works hard to keep her safe from the modern era’s customs. While this is the introductory look into the four guys’ lives, every episode shows so many aspects of them and the women around them.

Alpha Males: Women
I liked how all of the women in this series felt genuine and relatable rather than fabricated. Nobody can deny that people make mistakes, and in this series, they showed it well. While the four guys mess up terribly, the women also lose their track at some points. However, the cause of that would be these four guys. The series didn’t feel like it was trying to promote feminism. Rather, it showed how men and women need to understand each other’s powers and let things work. Otherwise, both of them are going to mess up.

The Lives of Children
Both Santi and Luis have children, and their storylines were crucial in the series. Santi, as a single parent, thinks he knows how to parent, but he also later realises how he can worsen everything. While his relationship with his daughter seems wholesome, it also feels like he isn’t parenting the child seriously. On the other hand, Luis believes the same, but his small kids are much smarter than him. He believes he has them under his watch, but honestly, it’s the other way around.
Alpha Males’ Comedy Was Natural

The comedy series didn’t feel forced but rather natural. The four guys and their different personalities made the series stand out. One was grumpy, another was too sweet, one was lazy, and another was too possessive. It was nice to see four guys who are nothing alike bond well and go around causing chaos. Their troublesome lives were hilarious to watch; that’s what the directors intended to show, I guess.
Stream It or Skip It?
Definitely stream it. Alpha Males is worth the hype, and you will like watching it. The actors, the plot, setting, and jokes are spontaneous and are built neatly. The end of the series gives the viewers a good take-home message.
