The new Netflix documentary about the concept of infinity is fascinating and enigmatic at the same time. Much like the notion itself, A Trip to Infinity is filled with explanatory moments to give us a brief idea about the endlessness of the universe.
The show features eminent physicists, mathematicians, and cosmologists taking a deep dive into the world of quantum mechanics. Believe it or not, the panel is so good with the process that you don’t need to have a PhD to understand infinity. It is directed by Jonathan Halperin and Drew Takahashi.
– A Trip to Infinity Review Does Not Contain any Spoilers –
The show starts with the definition of infinity itself. All the panellists have different words to explain it, but the main crux of it remains the same. At one point, you have to appreciate their honesty about everything. They don’t guarantee you the exact answers, but at the same time, their explanations lead to the adventurous ends of curiosity.
The show is divided into multiple chapters for better understanding. Each chapter explores a different theory about infinity and takes the help of humour-filled graphics to build up the concept. For instance, the looney tune representation of Proton and the speed of light will leave you in awe of the show.

Like every other Netflix science doc, the visual themes are highlighted in a pitch-perfect manner (something, which a show of this calibre required a lot). Even the most difficult concepts of Mathematics are smoothly portrayed through quirky montages.

The creative approach for defining theories of quantum mechanics is spot on. A layman can sit back and meditate with zero confusion, while a physicist goes over Einstein’s theory of relativity. Which in this case would be me.
I do come from a science background but never resonated with it. I blame my teachers and the thousand-page textbooks, that instilled a thick layer of monotony for even the most intriguing ideas. While watching A Trip to Infinity, I was reminded of how cool and innovative Physics can be. Back then, it was just putting values to a numerical, even before reading the complete questions.
The show has the kind of impact to reinstall a childish curiosity that many of us once had, but lost somewhere down the line. There is a special moment when one of the theoretical physicists states that she doesn’t know the answer. But sometimes it is a good thing not to know them. And that’s why she chose her profession. To find the answers.

Apart from the learning perspective, I need to comment on the subject in concern. It’s not like you will understand relativity right after watching the show. That’s just not how it works. Moreover, the theories are so complex, that you need crucial attention to absorb them. To be honest, I found myself replaying some chapters. And it’s no shame if you do too.
However, that’s the only con about this otherwise mesmerizing science special. The binging method and speed will rely on your capacity to consume theorems and concepts. Rest assured, you are bound to have a curiously rewarding time.
A Trip to Infinity: Final Thoughts
The show is a must-watch if you like mysteries of the universe. It will educate you about physics, and also about the extent of human understanding. Furthermore, there are several moments that will leave you speechless, and content with infinity.
A Trip to Infinity is streaming now on Netflix.

are you kidding me? this movie was absolutely horrible. next time get some real scientists and mathematicians. they experts in this show were complete morons
this review must be paid for by netlix because omg this show was bad
This show was absolutely great, but it helps to have a sense of wonder about really disturbing concepts, like infinity.
This review however, has a serious error: The “looney tunes” presentation was of a PHOTON, not a PROTON. Those are enormously different things.
The show left me with a feeling of desolation. Non-existence and loss of energy that will mark the end of all life. I’m not sure how cutting edge scientists can make these predictions, given they have no knowledge of life beyond this planet. But the idea is unsettling-it makes life meaningless.
