Spy x Family Season 3 Episode 2 Recap
The episode begins at Eden College, where a strict instructor punishes a student caught smoking by awarding him Tonitrus Bolts. Soon after, Damian and his friends are seen mocking Anya, claiming she’ll be the first to earn ten bolts and be expelled. Becky doesn’t take that insult lightly and immediately fires back, leading to a ridiculous bet between the two groups.
The main conflict of the episode revolves around Miss Schlag, a notoriously harsh teacher known for handing out Tonitrus Bolts without hesitation. Once feared by students before her illness, she has now returned to school, healthier and more determined than ever to discipline anyone in her path. Her inner thoughts are particularly amusing, showing that she gives out punishments not out of duty but sheer habit.

Damian soon lands himself in trouble when he forgets his handkerchief, but Anya steps in to help, offering him hers under the mistaken belief that she has a spare. Unfortunately, she doesn’t, and ends up earning a Tonitrus Bolt herself. Despite this setback, her gesture helps her grow a little closer to Damian, even if it causes Loid to nearly faint from stress.
The tone shifts in the second half of the episode, offering a rare glimpse into Loid’s childhood.
Spy x Family Season 3 Episode 3 Review

This episode of Spy x Family was a lot heavier than what we are familiar with. Here, Loid starts his life being affected by the war, where he loses his old home and moves with his family to a separate part of the country because of the impending soldiers from the other side. For some time, life begins to go back to normal, but even then, another air strike happens, and Loid becomes a war orphan. This heavily impacted Loid, and he grew up to be very hateful towards Ostania, believing them to be the ultimate villains.
Later, we see that he also met Stanley, who was fighting from the other side. Their interaction definitely shed more light on the fact that the innocent people from both countries are the only victims of the war. It is the inability of the governments of both countries to maintain a diplomacy that started the whole thing in the 1st place. After some time and losing more people dear to him, Loid finally understands that he will have to take a different approach altogether. He also gets appointed for a position at the Intelligence Bureau, and this is how he decides to pursue a career in spying rather than active warfare.

This episode was definitely emotionally resonant and profound, revolving around Loid and how he managed to become such a cold-hearted spy. The day he got assigned to the new department, he was informed that he would have to let go of his name and identity and work in the shadows of the country. But because he had one singular goal in his mind, Loid agreed to all of the terms.
Verdict

Today’s episode was definitely one of the best, and the last scene of Anya comforting Loid just makes you smile. Definitely give this episode a try, as the third season is literally better than the previous one.
