Etoile Review: Funny, Eccentric and Entertaining!

Etoile Review: In this comedy series, two esteemed ballet companies from New York and Paris swap their most talented stars in a bid to save their storied institutions. The series showcases the unpredictability of life in the artistic world through humour, both on stage and off.

Etoile Review

Two failing ballet studios, two eccentric directors and a ton of dnacers with their own quirks come together to deliver an amusing tale of keeping the beauty of theatre alive in this humorous series. Starring some well-known faces and bringing to screen some beautiful choreography, the series is a meddly of humour and emotion, tied with an entertaining and pretty bow.

Etoile features a ton of clashing egos some hilarious situations that are nothing short of eyebrow raising. The series showcases the best and worst of these characters whose complicated pasts shape their present and future, leaving them hungry to get more and do more. The narrative shifts from one character’s woes to the next drawing an intricate story that who they are as people and how they have changed.

I found these debates, discussions and tantrums amusing most of the time. They are over-the-top people with a lot of toddler like feelings to sift through but that makes it all the more funny. Their bursts of emotions might feel annoying on others, but Etoile paints a vivid picture of passionate artists facing the wrath of capitalism and the rising disinterest among the masses to consume what they have to give us.

That, however, doesn’t mean that it doesn’t get annoying sometimes. At almost 8 hours of total runtime, the characters can sometimes get on your nerves, especially when they are being obtuse on purpose, without any reason. I also found the series to be a bit too drawn-out sometimes and it felt a bit lagging because of it. However, it does make up for it most of the time with the whimsical characters and their extreme tantrums.

I think the performances are fantastic, both in terms of acting and the ballet performances. The latter are just mesmerising to watch and considering I am no expert in that field, I found myself lost in the graceful and fluid motions. When it comes to the acting, they are absolutely amusing and sometimes annoying, bringing forth the eccentiricies of these talented characters exceptionally well.

I think Etoile is a very entertaining show that had me hooked from the first episode. Although it can get a little annoying sometimes, it’s an overall fun time and if are able to get over some very grating sequences, will have a great time.
