The Beginning After the End Episode 3 Recap

In this episode, we find Arthur regaining consciousness in an unfamiliar place after a nasty fall. He’s immediately confronted by a mysterious creature, which understandably terrifies him. But instead of being hostile, the creature turns out to be his saviour. Arthur quickly notices the extent of his injuries, and the creature warns him not to exert himself. She offers him a place to rest and even shares the fruits that grow within her home.
We soon learn that her name is Sylvia, though much about her remains unknown. What we do know is that she possesses incredible strength, capable of using magic while simultaneously drawing in mana, something that’s considered rare for humans, though more typical for mana beasts. Sylvia expresses an interest in mentoring Arthur in this ability and asks him why he wants to learn it.

Arthur’s answer, however, catches her off guard. Drawing from his past life’s cold and ruthless nature, he openly admits that his intention is to use the power to kill bandits. This response prompts Sylvia to share some valuable wisdom, hoping to guide him toward a better path. As the episode progresses, it’s hinted that Sylvia has her own struggles, and the narrative begins to shift in a new direction.
The Beginning After the End Episode 4 Review

After what happened with Sylvia, Arthur continues on in his adventure and faces a different kind of problem. He is again in front of bandits who have now captured a young elf to sell her as a slave. That is when he realises that they are a similar kind of people to those who attacked his family before. Angry that he could not save his parents before, this time he becomes determined to save the elf.
Needless to say, Arthur showcases his new fighting abilities and rescues the girl who reminded him of someone. Though he was quick to leave her on her own devices after saving her, he had to keep her close because, unlike him, she is a normal child. Hence, he decides to take her to her home before he starts his journey again. On this trip, Arthur realised many things about himself.

He understood how he did not act like a normal child, and someone of his age would definitely be more like the girl. She also told him about her name, which is Tessia and that she comes from the land of the elves. At times, Arthur also ponders whether this is exactly how it will be when he gets a little sister.
Their time together was truly peaceful for Arthur, who was very much tense about his family. Tessia really becomes his first friend as she even starts to call him Art. But her friendship also reminded Arthur of his past quite often. This tells us how Arthur must have had friends in his past life whom he lost untimely.

Verdict
This episode was definitely a lot better than what we have seen previously. Even though the animation was not that good, it was still not terrible. The story also progresses at a decent pace, and if we can really ignore the still-framed animation, the story won’t feel half as bad as before.
