Chief Detective 1958 Episode 7 Recap

Chief Yu’s return surprises everyone, especially Dol-sik and Do-seok who try to avoid the former’s accusing eyes. The two then gather together with Chief Yu and Young-han for a private meeting, and Young-han catches them off guard as he presents proof of their reason for harming Chief Yu.

The proof is nothing but Dol-sik’s pledge to the Japanese Emperor that he wrote in his blood, along with a picture of Dol-sik supporting the Japanese rule. This surprises the two, while elsewhere, Hye-ju reveals to the rest of Unit 1 that she and Young-han were aware of Chief Yu’s condition and planned this behind everyone’s back.

Back to the meeting, Dol-sik asks Chief Yu what he wants only to see Chief Yu tear up the evidence right in front of them, shocking everyone. Chief Yu then tells them that he wants them to stay away from whatever Unit 1 does and he’ll make sure to keep their secret safe. Young-han is shocked by this and upon leaving, he asks Chief Yu why he gave up this easily.

Chief Yu tells him to leave the station and the two head to the hospital without another word. Meanwhile, Do-seok tells Dol-sik that they should get rid of Unit 1 as soon as possible, but the latter tells him not to underestimate Chief Yu as he probably has another card up his sleeve. Elsewhere, Chief Yu’s team surrounds him with complaints, only to soon realize that he has another card up his sleeve.

Later, Young-han walks back with his team and promises to never hide anything from them after listening to them complain about how he kept Chief Yu’s condition a secret from them. Soon, the team welcomes the new year and 1962 is the year of reconstruction in Seoul as well as the rise in popularity of stocks.

Meanwhile, Young-han takes his wife to the temple to offer their New Year prayers but sees a group of people harming leprosy patients due to their discrimination. He stops them and threatens to take them to prison if they harm the people after which he thanks the nun who tried to save the mother-child duo who had been suffering due to social stigma.

The two then head to the temple, and for their prayers, they talk about their wishes and Hye-ju shows her sadness over not being able to get pregnant. Young-han assures her that it will be alright and their time will come when it is right. Meanwhile, Sang-sun compares investing to gambling and angers Ho-jeong who has been investing in stocks recently.

Elsewhere, Young-han is on his way back to work when a man suddenly falls from a building, startling everyone present. He quickly heads to check up on the man only to find that he is dead. His team soon arrives and an investigation begins. They soon deduce that someone must have murdered the man based on the marks of restraint on his body. They then proceed inside the building and observe marks on the floor, providing evidence of his struggle before being thrown out of the window.

They start looking around the office but are shocked when they find that there is no document in the office. The only thing left there is a suicide note written by the deceased, making Young-han and Gyeong-hwan suspicious. Meanwhile, Sang-sun and Ho-jeong find another exit to the building which opens up in a deserted alley, making it the perfect place for the murderer to escape.

Back in the office, Young-han sees a broken abacus, which was pushed under the desk in a hurry to hide clues of there being a brawl in the room. This helps the team conclude that this was a murder and they return to investigate the case further. However, they are unaware that Dol-sik has ordered Do-seok to transfer any case related to stocks to the KCIA, which is soon going to be a problem for Unit 1.

Meanwhile, the deceased’s pregnant wife arrives at the station and tells them that her husband could not have committed suicide, as he was determined to live a better life for their child. She then hands over the love letters sent by her husband to help them match the handwriting on the suicide note. She also tells them that her husband told her that he was going to do something important, which could’ve been the reason for his death.

The team are sure that this case is fishy and later questions the deceased’s colleagues who tell them that the man was stealing from the company which may have been the reason for his suicide. However, the team is sure that there is more to the case and when Chief Yu brings the handwriting analyst to check the letters; they confirm that the letter was written by someone else.

Right then, Do-seok calls for Young-han and Chief Yu and instructs them to transfer this case to KCIA because it is related to stock crimes. He also tells Do-seok that this is a murder case and not something related to stocks.

The team continued to investigate the case and questioned people around the office building if they saw anyone suspicious. One of the street vendors tells Young-han that a well-dressed man would often drop by the office. Meanwhile, Sang-sun calls for Young-han as they find a group of people who can help them. It is a group of leprosy stricken people who were hidden near the back exit.

Young-han asks them about the murderer and one of the women recognises him as the person who saved her the other day. She tells him about the man’s description, which becomes a breaking point for the case. Later, Geum Eun-dong, Young-han’s banker housemate, is approached for help, and he reveals the truth behind the stock market hype. He tells them about the man behind this stock market manipulation and reveals that even the KCIA is involved in this whole scenario.

However, the man they need to approach right now would be found the next day as he often visits Eun-song’s bank manager. The team decides to follow the man the next day and finds him entering a gambling den the next day where people are seen betting on arm wrestlers. They know the approach they need to take next and return to discuss the same with Chief Yu.

Chief Yu recognises the man they are talking about and later Eun-dong reveals the true motive behind this is to gather seed capital for the upcoming development the country is going to go through. This only angers the team further, but right then Nan-sil arrives and tells them that there was another prosecutor who was found dead just 10 minutes from the scene of this incident.

Young-han is shocked by this news but suddenly thanks Nan-sil as she may have just helped them solve this case. The next day, Young-han and his team go to the gambling den and cause chaos, after which they capture three people- the murderer, his boss, and the man whom they followed to this place.

They begin investigating them and it doesn’t take long for them to break and reveal the truth. Right then, Do-seok arrives with the KCIA who take the three away. Young-han stops the murderer and his boss from leaving, using the reason that they are involved in the murder case, aware that they will soon be let free if sent back with the other man.

They also take the deceased’s colleagues into custody, but some days later they find out that the men in this custody have either died or escaped. However, the man who was let to go with the KCIA escaped to a foreign country soon after. Young-han feels that justice was not served to the deceased but they have no other choice but to go along for now.

However, later that year, the stock market crashed due to manipulation and everyone responsible for the crisis was acquitted soon after.

Chief Detective 1958 Episode 7 Review

Episode 7 brought in many twists and turns before returning to the regular crime scene and the team solving it. However, the difference this show brings is the way it connects these crimes to the major changes the country went through in the past. Chief Detective 1958 brings a unique excitement through these very cases and connections that make this show a wonder to watch.

Meanwhile, the cast once again sweeps us off our feet with their wonderful performance and chemistry, while the plot keeps us excited from the beginning to the end. This show makes viewers watch the 800+ episodes sequel from the 1970s which may not be possible for us, but seeing as how we are soon reaching the end of this show, there is a possibility that many of us would want to know more about Young-han’s journey.
