The Uncanny Counter Season 2 Episode 9 Recap

The Uncanny Counter season 2 episode 9 begins with Gelly taking away all of So Mun’s memories of his rebirth as a Counter, leaving everyone shocked and turning his hair straight. Seeing this, Pil-gwang gets mad at Gelly for ruining his plans and attacks her to get her powers, but the Counters are not ready to let this happen and keep intercepting him.

Meanwhile, Ju-seok too has understood Pil-gwang’s underlying purpose for joining him in facing the counters, but right now he needs to get rid of So Mun. Thus, while the Counters are busy stopping Pil-gwang, Jong-beok is asked to take So Mun away. However, Ju-seok intervenes and gets his hands on So Mun and is about to finish him off.

Right then the elevator doors open and Jang-mul is here to save the day with his best-in-class weapon. The Counters soon escape and are now worried for their beloved So Mun. Meanwhile, Wi-gen is also not in a good place as she rushes in and disappears in front of the other spirits.

Later, the spirits tell the Counters that it is better to not go behind Gelly even if the time right now is right as it may harm them. Elsewhere, Ju-seok confronts Pil-gwang about his intentions which he does not deny and ends up angering Ju-seok who is doing this for his revenge. Ju-seok then gets up to leave when Pil-gwang tells him to wait as they will lead him to Lee Chung-jae without them having to do anything.

The next day, Jang-mul and Jong-beok are looking after So Mun when the former leaves to meet So Mun’s grandparents after seeing them call him. He makes up a reason to assure them of So Mun’s safety after which he enquires how So Mun woke up when he fell into a coma during his childhood.

He soon returns and this time with So Mun’s friends Ju-yeon and Ung-min who begin taking proper care of So Mun while asking him to wake up soon. Meanwhile, the spirits come up with a hypothesis that So Mun is not really in a coma or where Gi-wen is, instead, his soul is still in his body and he can be reached by Ha-na.

Ha-na tests this and later gets into his mind to bring So Mun back. However, she is soon shocked to see So Mun’s state inside as he fears getting close to anyone, believing that they will die because of him. Ha-na understands that So Mun thinks that everyone is dead because that is the last he saw before losing consciousness.

Seeing an adamant So Mun who is not ready to go back, Ha-na has no choice but to come back. Later, she discusses this with the others and Su-ho tells them that this has happened before too and it only led to the death of the Counter and the vanishing of their spirit.

Everyone is shocked, however, they are not ready to give up and put faith in So Mun’s willpower to come back. Meanwhile, Gelly finds out that Lee Chung-jae will be fleeing the next day. The next day, Mo-tak tells Mae-ok and the others about how Ju-seok got information on Lee Chung-jae’s whereabouts through Jae-youl.

Mae-ok once again goes to find the man and finally reaches him in his grandmother’s house. She takes him for food and he confronts her about meeting before just recently. He remembers her as the one who saved him in the past and she does not hide anymore. Instead, she tells him that he still has a chance and should go to the police to surrender.

He tells her that Lee Chung-jae will be fleeing from the country the very same day and she soon passes on this information to Mo-tak during which Jae-youl disappears. Later that night, Gelly finds Lee Chung-jae with the money and ready to flee, when the Counters barge in.

Everyone soon scatters and while Mo-tak and Mae-ok go after Lee Chung-jae, Ha-na and Jong-beok go after Gelly. Ha-na tricks Gelly and lures her into one of the big containers at the port and defeats her in the darkness of the container, thus, finally summoning her and freeing the Chinese Counter.

Elsewhere, Lee Chung-jae fires a bullet towards Mae-ok which is intercepted by Jae-youl, following which Mo-tak arrives and takes care of Lee Chung-jae who is soon sent to the police along with the money. The Counters then return and rejoice for having defeated Gelly and capturing Lee Chung-jae without So Mun’s help.

Now, they only wish to wake up their beloved comrade who has been sleeping for too long. On the other hand, Ju-seok lures Jang-mul by manipulating an incident involving So Mun’s grandparents. He then gets information about the Counters’ base when Jang-mul tells him that Lee Chung-jae has been taken to the police station and the money has also been found.

Ju-seok then quickly leaves while Jang-mul recalls the incident to the Counters. Meanwhile, Gelly is being taken away by the police when Pil-gwang arrives and kills her for ending up in such a state while having the powers of a Counter and destroying his plans. Back at the Counters’ base, Ha-na tells everyone that she will enter So Mun’s mind again and bring him back no matter what.

Later, she enters So Mun’s mind again and sees him being surrounded by the enemies of the past and present as they degrade him for being weak and a curse to those around him. She tries to pull him out of it but the scene changes and they arrive at the hotel where they fought Pil-gwang and Ju-seok.

So Mun sees his fallen teammates and blames himself when Ha-na tells him that this is not true and shows him the memories of their days together. Unfortunately, So Mun does not believe her and the scene once again changes to the time when So Mun lost his parents to an accident.

Ha-na is surprised to see So Mun back at this place and tells him to leave with her and for the people who are waiting for him. However, So Mun stands there in a daze when Ha-na sees the truck rushing towards them. With no choice left, she stands between the truck and So Mun when suddenly, So Mun wakes up from his stupor and pulls Ha-na while stopping everything around.

He asks her about everyone and Ha-na tells him that they are waiting for him and they soon return. Ha-na returns first while So Mun first brings Wi-gean back before returning to his team.

The Uncanny Counter Season 2 Episode 9 Review

Episode 9 has to be one of my new favourites, not because So Mun was in a coma but because of how well the other Counters and their teamplay were highlighted. While there is no doubt that So Mun is the lead character and this is highlighted, episodes like this one bring in a freshness to the show.

I have loved how well the team is pulling themselves together and not just being side characters but being real Counters. Meanwhile, Ju-seok is beginning to enter a state of conflict as he struggles to find himself killing So Mun. This shows us hope for his character, and honestly, I really hope he doesn’t get too sad of an ending.

Finally, Ha-na and Gelly’s animosity finally closes and we can see more such endings coming our way soon. Who do you think will be the final villain of this season? Pil-gwang or Ju-seok?
